Over the last 6 months I find myself absorbing as much Expanded Universe stuff as I can stand. I've always passed on it, thinking the Star Wars story is simple, it's the rise, the fall, and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Everything else is dressing for that story.
I've come to the realization that, sure, that's the plot of those movies, but it's a big universe and there are lots of stories to tell. Legacy is another chapter that I'm completly captured by. It's far enough removed from the Empire/New Republic era that it can make it's own way without major continutiy issues, but still draw on those stories to tell a great tale of it's own.
Vol 1 doesn't do much more than set up the universe, the characters and the conflicts. It does a great job of establishing the status quo, and you can bet more Legacy is on my Wild Pig shopping list.
Oh, and Luke Skywalker: Last Hope of the Galaxy is a BEAUTIFUL book that I just can't wait to dive into. Words can't do justice the presentation Dark Horse has put together.

Really enjoyed the episode, thanks for a fun BotM and thanks in general for the show.
- Issue 4 is the storm trooper story I mentioned in the previous thread. Essentially it has nothing to do with the storyline except telling the plight of a new storm trooper during this time during what is a civil war.
- Now that I think about it, this series did well like I think Devil’s Due did with G.I. Joe giving nice nods to fans of all the other media: novels, movie etc and to worrying about them to be all understood by all but giving something for everyone.
- Bryan, I’m with you about the Jedi- it’s overkill and a crutch, especially in the novels. It’s why I enjoy Karen Traviss’ novels so much. Also agree with you on the Storm Troopers (which is why I wish that missing issue was included) to me they are the representative of the common population post-prequel era.
- Shane you’re right about Bastion, if I recall correctly it is the world that Moff Disra is in charge of in the Zahn novels.
- Anakin has showed up in novels with Leia as Shane says (TaB), he also appears at least in Balance Point.
- Zabrak facial tattoos represented many things, may times like a family crest, but for other things as well - completely agree with you on the under use of Maul in Episode I. I think the Zabraks were used again simply too tap into ‘cool potential’ of slapping one on the cover. Maul if nothing else, looked cool.
- Duursema has penciled like a couple dozen of the issues of this series.
- Nihl=Nihilism, Krayt = Krayt Dragon=hint to identity
- cutting the hands in duels is a traditional strategy to exhibit skill without killing
- Bryan, Legacy of the Force is the latest series - it’s damn sweet. I get all these Star Wars novels from Del Rey and I read them all if you want them (though they are hardcover) I’ll be more than willing to send them out periodically (if you don't get them already).
- Complete agreement on the Thrawn trilogy - the basis for all post film Star Wars material.
