That's right! LongBox has given us the opportunity to give away TEN $25 gift codes. Ten winners will walk away with one gift code each worth $25 to use for LongBox Digital as they enter the last stages of their Beta testing. You can only win once but here's your chance to check out LongBox Digital before it goes public.
HOW DO I WIN A GIFT CODE?
I'll be posting two trivia questions, one today (Saturday) and one tomorrow, Sunday. The FIRST FIVE PEOPLE to answer each question correctly will win a gift code! Once I have the first five responses I'll post on here that we are no longer taking submissions. You can certainly try to answer both, to ensure you get into the top five responses for at least one of the questions, but you can only win once.
WHERE WILL THE QUESTION BE ASKED?
The best way to reach many of our listeners is through Twitter. So I'll be posting the question on http://www.twitter.com/comicgeekspeak
WHERE DO I SUBMIT MY ANSWERS?
Send your answers to cgscontest@gmail.com. Include the answers, your name, address and email and forum name (if applicable). You DO NOT need to be a forum member to participate! Make sure you include everything in your answer that the question is asking for. I'll be asking questions that (hopefully) can not be easily found on wikipedia or some other easy go-to site. So be sure to have complete answers.
WHAT DO I WIN AGAIN?
Ten winners will each win a $25 gift code to LongBox Digital. With most LongBox products priced at $1.00, each user could walk away with 25 free comics from publishers including Image, BOOM!, Top Cow and some others we can't confirm as yet. And in turn, this will help LongBox give their app a real testing before they launch they final version.
WHAT IS LONGBOX DIGITAL AGAIN?
Here's their press release:
LongBox Digital (LBX) is a new application-based platform for the secure distribution, sale and enjoyment of comic books and other visual narratives in digital form. With an intuitive user interface, robust IP security and an unmatched multi-publisher catalogue of content, LBX Digital will be the market-defining solution for bringing the immersive and compelling experience of comic books to personal computers, handhelds and other digital entertainment devices when it emerges from Private Beta in May.
With a toolset that offers all publishers and creators to easily sell digital versions of their comics across multiple devices, LongBox is the first initiative of its kind to meet the digital distribution and needs of the comics industry and its customers in a truly comprehensive manner. “We’re not interested in capturing a subset of a niche market. Our entire focus is to bring comics to a truly mass market audience in the way they have come to expect from all forms of digital entertainment,” said LongBox CEO Rantz Hoseley at Comic-Con International 2009. LongBox is poised to do just that, with an ever‐growing slate of participating comics publishers and independent creators that will be announced shortly.
The LongBox Platform was developed over the last three years, driven in part by Hoseley’s frustration of seeing various ‘digital comic solutions’ fall short of giving what fans, publishers and comics creators expected to see alongside such digital music and video innovators like iTunes, Zune Marketplace and Amazon.com. “These digital comics ‘solutions’ are missing the most obvious features and functionalities; features that have become commonplace and expected in the modern lexicon of digital entertainment,” Hoseley explains. “These features are nowhere to be found in the world of digital comics, and fan and publisher reaction to all of them has been along the lines of, ‘Well, until there’s something better.’ We decided to do something about that.”
A free, downloadable application with an integrated storefront, catalogue, and reader, the LongBox Platform offers instant access -- anytime, anywhere -- to an extensive and growing library of current and archival quality in the highest quality available, not to mention the freedom for users to import and enjoy their existing digital collections in all the popular formats. Additionally, the LBX Platform will come with a ‘sample pack’ of up to eight comics from a variety of publishers. The pack will change every month and continues to be free for all registered users. Naturally, all such content can be enjoyed across the users’ preferred devices or hardware.
Perhaps most auspiciously, the LongBox Platform supports 'enhanced content', allowing publishers and creators to provide readers with an experience only possible in the digital realm. “Enhanced content is supported on a per book, per chapter, or per‐page level, and can consist of features such as text overlays, audio or video,” Hoseley explains. “For example, a creator could provide comprehensive ‘director’s commentary’‐ style material, but LongBox allows for features such as ‘PageStages’, which lets the reader see how the comic comes together by toggling from script to layout to pencils and inks on a given page.”
The first public demonstrations of the LongBox Platform at HeroesCon in June, 2009 and the Comic‐Con International last July drew rave reviews from fans and press alike, with former Fox and New Line Cinema VP of Development, Jeff Katz -- whose new development group American Original has partnered with LongBox -- saying, “My jaw hit the ground. LongBox] s revolutionary in a lot of ways,”
