So far in our BOMC five month cycle for the beginning of this year we've had Other (Chew vol.1) and DC (the Unwritten vol.1). Now we turn to Geek's Choice so Matt has chosen the Tick: the Complete Edlund:

You can find it here:

The BOMC discount isn't on it just yet though! So here's the thread to talk about the classic Tick stories!

Also, here's the selections for the rest of the cycle. Again, the BOMC discounts will be up shortly:

SWEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!! I will now have to dig out that 12 issue run and rereread them. I got into the Tick about the time the 3rd issue came out. Luckily I managed to get the first 2 issues for a decent price. I am kinda jealous of the people that get to read it one issue after another. Cause as it was coming out in floppies there was major gaps between issues. I am still hopeful that one day Ben Edlund will come back and write issue 13,and the series can have some closure. But anyway, this is one of the funniest books of its era. Chock full of inside jokes and major amounts of parody. And it is neat how little stuff in the backgrounds of panels in the first few issues ,became major storylines later in this run and the other runs of the Tick.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Years ago, my student improv crew adopted Spoon! as our official pre-show battle cry. It's the only tradition that has carried over from day one.

I need to get this eventually. I have about half of the Edlund books, so this would make a perfect addition to my library. Man, those are some dang funny books.

anything by Jacques Tardi is a good choice - some of his books are even read in our schools

I'm currently ordering the new printings of #1-12 in color from DCBS that are coming out over the next few months. I'm also planning to bind them after they're done.

I grabbed the Ominbus editions off ebay for $10. I'm looking forward to digging in once they finally get here (Media Mail).

This is one of my all time favorite runs of books. I started reading The Tick when issue 11 came out, and it was this, along with Flaming Carrot by Bob Burden and Milk & Cheese by Evan Dorkin that showed me that comics didn't have to be all about super heroes in tights, or at least that super heroes in tights didn't need to be taken all too seriously.

I've read a few of the other Tick series and spin offs, but never was able to really get into them as much as these first 12 issues by Ben Edlund. There was something particularly witty and clever and - I dare say it - mature about these issues that none of the other series were able to pull off.

Nice choice for BOMC!
