Let’s get this ball rollin’!

28 Days Later #6 – The thing I enjoy the most is the sense of realism you get in this story; no character is sacred, and surviving means having to make tough sacrifices. While some people enjoyed the 28 Weeks Later sequel, I would much rather see this series as the movie sequel instead; it’s really great and stays true to the first movie.

Batman Confidential #41 – While the villain of the story isn’t knocking my socks off, the art by Sam Keith sure is! It’s cool to see him revisit his other miniseries Batman: Secrets at one point, but overall it was the art that kept me interested. Beautiful plumage.

Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Special – Okay, this is just a couple of reprints revolving around Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and the Joker. I’ve read them all before, but the creepily awesome Slayride story was fun to read again.

Blackest Night: The Question #37 – Alas, while Renee hasn’t been striking my fancy in the back-pages of Detective Comics, she really kicked some ass in this one-shot! Rucka and O’Neill told a great story dealing with masking emotions, followed with some spectacular inks by Sienkiwicz. I had loads of fun with this tie-in.

Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #3 – I really enjoyed seeing Mera just go into a blood-filled rage against Wonder Woman this issue, trident and all. This issue had some great character moments, and I found myself not minding so much about the continuity. It’ll be interesting to see how long Wonder Woman remains a Star Sapphire for.

Cable #23 – Guess what? It appears that we might FINALLY stop jumping around in time and FINALLY settle down in the next issue! Then again, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love #4 – While this issue felt a little ‘meh’ in some places, I think the appearance of Puss in Boots made-up for it. Just like a cat, he didn’t like getting dirty, let alone wet. The thing I love most about this series are the covers by Chrissie Zullo. Note to self; look into her other works.

Conan: The Cimmerian #18 – Even though it’s only been a three-issue arc, it felt like Conan was in the jungle retelling his story for years. With that said, this was my favorite issue of the arc with all the events that took place. The art seemed a little off at times, but it was an enjoyable issue overall regardless.

Criminal: The Sinners #4 – Nice to see he finally figured out who is behind the killings, but now it looks like he’s way in over his head. I wouldn’t start mourning for him yet, because he still has a lotta heart left in him. Gorgeous are as always by Sean Philips.

DEMO 2 #1 – While not the strongest of starts for this second volume (I sorta called it in the first few pages), it’s so awesome to see Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan back together again! I loved Cloonan’s art on this issue (I’ve loved her style for years now), and it was so cool to see how far she’s come as an artist since the first volume. Everything is so detailed and so enjoyable to look at. Can’t wait to see what the next issue has in store!

Doctor Who #8 – ‘meh’.

Doom Patrol #7 – Skipped the main story and went straight to the Metal Men story (and had chuckles galore).

Ghost Riders: Heaven’s on Fire #6 – Hot damn what a great issue to go out on! Jason Aaron’s run on Ghost Rider has been truly epic, and he started with Roland Boschi as the artist, and ends with Boschi as the artist. Nothing but non-stop fiery action this issue, with corpses apleanty! I’m going to miss Aaron on Ghost Rider because he alone made me like the character after years of hatred.

G.I. Joe: Origins #12 – Okay, with a creative team of Marc Andreyko and Ben Templesmith, how could I NOT pick this up?! I had such a great time with this issue! The story of the Baroness is one I’m not familiar with, so it was great to see her background told through Andreyko’s words and Templesmith’s beyond gorgeous art. This is a contender for sure for Pick of the Week.

House of Mystery #22 – This issue was so deliciously creepy and fucked-up! The adventures of Fig & Strawberry take a disturbingly twisted turn which reveals some forgotten memories for current-day Fig. The side-story was as if the Care Bears were molested by Heath Ledger’s Joker; something innocent and pure being corrupted and destroyed. Brilliantly told by Sturges & Rossi, it’s issues like this that remind me why it’s one of my favorite books currently being put out by Vertigo.

Invincible Iron Man #23 – I laughed pretty hard this issue when Pepper and Maria start talking to each other about Tony. He proves once again how big of a prick he can be, even in a coma. The rest of the issue was okay, with the next issue looking to be pretty action-packed.

Jonah Hex #52 – Liked the art, and enjoyed the story. No matter where Jonah goes, trouble always seems to be following right behind.

Justice Society of America Annual #2 – Kill Magog! For the love of Raptor Jesus, kill the annoying bugger!

Marvel Heartbreakers #1 – A lame attempt by Marvel to put out a Valentine’s Day special. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of one of the characters in the issue, you don’t need to pick this up.

NOVA #34 – The set-up in this issue reminded me of Jeph Loeb’s HULK issues where there was a similar battle with pawns being used. Hopefully next issue we can get back to normal story-wise.

Realm of Kings: Son of Hulk #1 – I’m pretty confused and must have missed something; I thought Hulk’s kid was currently training with him? Who is this guy?

Red Robin #9 – This was a pretty great issue; Tim returns to Gotham and is getting back into the rhythm of things. Add in some funny moments regarding Doctor Midnight and the return of Connor Kent, and you have one enjoyable read on your hands.

Red Sonja: Wrath of the Gods #1 – I enjoyed the art, but not so much the story.

Red Tornado #6 – This miniseries took me by surprise from issue one. It made me care about a character which I’ve loathed for the longest time, and expanded his family into something more. Very enjoyable series, and I’d love to see Red Tornado Jr. join the Teen Titans.

Savage Dragon #157 – I’m not only confused about which Dragon is which, but now why are there so many?! It’s like reading the Hulk title in the Image universe.

Scalped #34 – Pick of the Week, hands-down! So many loose-ends are tied up this issue, with some spectacular revelations, and gruesome deaths. The Gnawing storyline might have felt like it’s been going for years now, but everything leading up to it finally pays off. This issue alone reminds me why Scalped is the best series being published by Vertigo at the moment. If you haven’t been reading this series, kill yourself…or go read it.

Siege #2 – It was a step-up from the first issue, but I’m not praising this series quite yet. While it was cool to see the Sentry finally doing something that doesn’t involve flying off into space crying, I sure would like to know how Maria Hill was able to rescue Thor from the Dark Avengers with nothing more than a pick-up truck, a local, and a rocket launcher. Hopefully next issue will kick some serious ass with the Secret Warriors, Young Avengers, and New Avengers arriving to the battle.

Siege: Embedded #2 – Volstagg is entertaining as always, but this Frontline story is reminding me of how like previous mini’s, this too is pretty so-so.

Superman: World of New Krypton #12 – I don’t know why I fooled myself into thinking the ending of this event was going to be rewarding and thrilling, when in fact the story will continue on in the regular Superman series. There were good character interactions this issue between Zod and Kal-El, but I did feel letdown as a whole.

Sweet Tooth #6 – I chuckled when Jepperd’s background involved him playing hockey (Lemire loves putting hockey in his titles). Quite the eerie discovery this issue of what was in the bag he traded Gus for. Will he have a change of conscious now? I sure hope so.

The Boys #39 – It’s going to be interesting to see what the inevitable intervention with Wee Hughie is going to be like in the next issue. Alas, we can’t always get what we want, especially poor Hughie. Moment that made me laugh; Frenchie giving the Female old 2000 AD comics to read.

The Torch #5 – Whatta bunch of flamers in this issue!

Ultimate X #1 – I don’t understand; Marvel continues to let Loeb write Ultimate stories even after all the damage he did in the third volume of The Ultimates, and the Ultimatum event?! I’m convinced he has naked pictures of Joey Q stashed away as a little job security.

Wolverine: Weapon X #10 – I liked seeing the women in Logan’s life in this issue. Especially with the possibility of a new girlfriend, and the potential stories that come with it. The art even struck my fancy as well.
