Any other heroes you would like to see in the "Secret Origin" mold?

Johns again but make it a 4 part mini that is easy to understand starting w/ the first issue to the last issue.

Johns' run on Hawkman several years ago was quite strong. He made Carter Hall into the DCU's version of Indiana Jones. I think the title went off the rails when Hawkgirl took the spotlight. For some reason I have always found Kendra to be as unlikable as the old Jason Todd.
I know Jor-El and Lara were featured only on the cover but I love how they all form a great mural of the Man of Steel.

Wrath - Doomsday
I've only read his original appearances during the Death of Superman storyline, so I don't know what character development was done in the follow-up miniseries, but during his first appearance at least he was the personification of rage, at anything and everything around him. BTW is he still around in the DCU? Mongul could also fit this spot.
Greed - Luthor
As mentioned, he was chosen by the orange ring, for obvious reasons.
Sloth - Brainiac
Okay, this one might be a bit of a stretch, but one of the definitions of sloth (granted its from wikipedia) is "spiritual or emotional apathy", which could describe Brainiac's pursuit of total knowledge.
Pride - General Zod
Also agree with the guys' interpretation here.
Lust - Maxima
Eh, she's not really a villain, but she's an antagonist at the least, and I really couldn't think of anyone else to fill this spot. If we were applying this to Batman I would've gone with Poison Ivy.
Envy - Bizarro
He wants to be the real Superman.
Gluttony - Parasite
He views his victims as meals, so this one makes sense.

Yes, yes, yes. I'd totally get that.
Anyway--I enjoyed the issue. It didn't make me geek out as much as the last issue with introducing the whole Planet staff, but it was still a solid, engrossing issue.

That has more to do with Simonson and Chaykin than with the character herself. I love the new Hawkgirl - but that story was bad from the get-go. Even through the Palmiotti/Gray stuff the series was strong. But it tanked once the new One Year Later creative team jumped on board.

I think I just always liked Shiera more than Kendra.
I'd love to see Johns' take on Aquaman's secret origin. Mostly I want to see them restore Arthur Jr. It was a big mistake to kill the baby solely for the shock value.
Am I the only one who thinks that the Jor-El on this cover looks like James Brolin?

As for secret origins: Simone doing a Wonder woman would be cool, but I find myself oddly wanting a Johns run at all 7 of the big guns. i mean, Simones Wonder Woman is excellent, one of the best books on the stands, but id just like to see Johns take on the big guns. hes done Superman, green Lantern and is about to do Flash; let him keep going!
And do Aquaman next. Loves me some Aquaman.

I agree 200%!!!
I love Superman Secret Origins so far. It is more of character piece than just focusing on the plot.
BTW, you can't just mention John Byrne's Superman without mentioning Marv Wolfman. It was Wolfman's idea of Luthor as a business man that was used, JB didn't come up that that concept. Wolfman also introduced Cat Grant.

The long-time fans who know what Metallo is can put all of these pieces together as above, but obviously next issue has a battle with Metallo, so it's all going to be out on the table in that issue. I think Johns didn't want to be that obvious about it here, and let people instead figure it out, and those that couldn't will get it revealed at the proper time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! Why the Krypton scene? Oh, well. I enjoyed the issue, too. (Sorry to be so late in getting around to listening to this one -- and thanks for reading my comment from the last! That was a pleasant surprise!)
I especially liked the introduction of Jimmy Olsen in this issue. It gives him some depth and explains his stron affection for and connection to Superman as something more than just "Gee whiz" hero worship. I also loved how Johns made "Parasite" an identity worthy of who Rudy Jones was before his accident. (It's reminiscent of how the early seasons of "Buffy" used villains and "big bads" who were largely literal externalizations of internal character traits -- and flaws.)
I'd like at some point to hear more from Jamie on why he doesn't think Birthright took -- not that he's wrong, because clearly he is not; but why? On paper, it seems like it should have been a "slam dunk" -- a hip (more or less) Clark Kent who wasn't a total dweeb, a fresh feel to the mythos, and still one hell of an emotional pay-off at the end. It still makes me smile just to think of it. What was it -- about the series, about the cultural moment -- that just didn't make it stick? Was the conquering Kal-El part of Birthright proper? Not as I read it.
Another great episode -- keep 'em coming!
