Let's get this ball rollin'!
Astro City: The Dark Age – Book Four #1 – First of all, how about that beautiful Alex Ross cover? Tremendous stuff. Anyways, the start of the final book of The Dark Age was a good issue to remind the reader what the ongoing story was focusing on. This time around? Revenge will happen.
Avengers: The Initiative #32 – This was a great tie-in to Siege. Focusing on the Taskmaster, we get a nice little back story on his rise to the big leagues, fighting along such names like Ares, Osborn, etc. He’s looking to make a name for himself in the history books, and does a great job of kicking Asgardian ass in the process.
Batman & Robin #7 – Cameron Stewart’s art on this was bloody gorgeous! While it sucks seeing Quitely taking a break, Stewart can stay on for as long as he wants for all I’m concerned. Interesting twist at the end, and I can’t wait to see what develops next issue.
Blackest Night: JSA #2 – Oh look, it’s undead Lois & Superman again. Of all the Blackest Night miniseries that have graced the stands so far, this one is my least favorite. We see more of the undead heroes acting like heroes, and the undead don’t do that!!! They’re hivemind, not freewill!
Captain America: Reborn #6 – While the explosions were pretty, and the action was abundant, the outcome was clear as day last month. Steve’s back, big whoop. Have an important series like this come out on time in the future, and maybe it’ll make a bigger impact. Then again, the spoiler is right there in the title.
Daredevil #504 – I’m consistently impressed with Andy Diggle’s run so far. Matt is making his own little HQ in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen, while telling the NYPD and HAMMER to piss-off his turf at the same time. Not only is that badass, but making his enemies think their soldiers are slaughtered while in reality they’re prisoners? Daredevil is a man to be feared by both good and bad.
Dark Reign: Hawkeye #5 – Way late, and uneventful.
Detective Comics #861 – While J.H. Williams III only did the cover, the guest-art by Jock was fantastic! With Batwoman getting better intel than Batman on this new psycho who is carving-up college girls, I smell a team-up in the near future. Gorgeous stuff as always from this title, both story and art.
Echo #19 – The gears are in motion, and one thing is for certain; they need to get that entire suit back together ASAP! Before the angry-killer-bum strikes first! Great art, wonderful sci-fi story, I’m fairly certain this is going to be one very pretty omnibus when it eventually finishes.
Fall of the Hulks: Red Hulk #1 – You certainly get lots of Hulk-on-Hulks action this issue! After reading this issue, I never realized exactly how many Hulk-type beings are in the Marvel U. You’d think the government would stop with the gamma radiation, huh?
Fantastic Four #575 – Great fun to see the Moleman seek the help of the Fantastic Four, especially when the High Evolutionary is involved. You have some very beautiful art spreads in this issue, all underground.
G.I. Joe: Cobra II #1 – So we’re re-introduced to some familiar faces this issue, and I only hope they’re continuing on with this second series because they have a good story like the first volume. It’s very easy to put out shitty sequels to blockbuster events nowadays. After reading this first issue, that doesn’t seem to be the case (so far).
Gotham City Sirens #8 – I won’t be able to express it enough in this written review, but the art in this issue was beyond gorgeous. It was A+ eye-candy, and huge props to Guillem March for creating such a thing of beauty. He even plotted out this issue with Andreyko on dialogue. This is a serious contender for Best Single Issue of 2010 for me.
Green Lantern #50 – Pick of the Week, hands-down. You have a little something for everybody in this issue, with different colored lanterns galore. It was very entertaining to see the relationships between the new deputized lanterns and their original owners. It also had some great creepy moments, including my personal favorite, Mera telling Arthur she never wanted children before spewing her red plasma at her own baby. So intense! If you’re loving Blackest Night, this is a must-read issue to own.
Grimm Fairy Tales: Neverland #0 – While Zenescope is known to take fairy tales and add breasts and violence into them, this was a very exciting concept; updating Peter Pan. I was very impressed with the set-up of this new mini-series, and will definitely be coming back for the first issue.
Guardians of the Galaxy #22 – Whatta conclusion to this enjoyable story arc! Guardians come in to save the day at the last minute, and billions of believers of the Church are suddenly converted away. While it appears to be all over, I have a feeling that shit’s about to get insane (especially with that last page reveal!).
Irredeemable #10 – While Gil and Bette finally get things out in the open, not much action happened in this issue. We’re introduced to a new character, but I have a feeling things will get a lot more intense (how I like this series) next issue.
Jack of Fables #42 – So Jack Jr. gets the entire issue to himself, and shows what a cunning adventurer he’s capable of being. Sure, some of the story made me groan (he can’t be THAT naïve), but the art kept my interest.
Justice League: Cry For Justice #6 – Can’t I just cry after reading for this series instead? There is no justice if a series like this is on stands.
Justice League of America #41 – It’s a double-whammy of Robinson JL books this week! And after reading his first issue of this series, I’m still not impressed with this series as a whole!
Justice Society of America #35 – Speaking of titles I’m not impressed with, let’s count Willingham’s run on this one as well. It should have stopped after Johns left, but alas, that will sadly never be the case.
Kick-Ass #8 – The final issue FINALLY comes out, and just in time before the movie. If the movie is completed before the actual comic book is, then it shouldn’t be considered a comic book movie. It should be considered the comic book adaptation of the superhero movie. Anyone wanna bet the exact same formula is going to happen with Millar’s next project; Nemesis?
Madame Xanadu #19 – It was nice to see the early years of Xanadu and her sister. To think, her sister was even a bitch back then.
Ms. Marvel #49 – Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, and Mystique all in the same issue being penned by Reed? Reads like a good time to me.
New Avengers #61 – One of the main reasons I chose this issue as a Fast Five selection was because of Daniel Acuna’s art. Every time he’s on a Marvel book, I will buy it no questions asked. However, having an entertaining story that didn’t consist of just dialogue helped too.
Northlanders #24 – Halfway through this Viking tale, and things aren’t looking good for the village. If I were a betting man, I’d guess that the search party brought the plague back with them, therefore dooming their own people. A little farfetched maybe, but I wouldn’t dismiss it quite yet.
Pilot Season: Demonic #1 – So the guy has to kill others to save the souls of his own family, and happens to work for the police at the same time? Could be interesting. I still like Murderer better so far.
Punisher #13 – The bastardization of Frank Castle continues in this issue, with beautiful art by Tony Moore.
Robocop #1 – Now it’s been awhile since I’ve seen Robocop 1-3, but I still remembered enough to enjoy this first issue. Rob Williams is the writer, so you know you can’t go wrong! I loved his stuff on Cla$$war.
Secret Warriors #12 – Cool origin of the Hive, and interesting situation between HYDRA and Leviathan getting more intense. Who is to benefit from this war of baddies? Why, Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors of course!
Siege – Storming Asgard: Heroes & Villains – Save yourself $4 and search for all the characters listed in this issue on Wikipedia instead. Complete waste of money, and suckering those buying anything with a Siege banner on the cover.
Supergirl #49 – Things are bloody in this issue. Really, really bloody. Hey, at least Supergirl isn’t the Silver Banshee anymore, right?
Superman: Secret Origin #4 – Things felt a little slack this issue, with the only major development being the origin of Parasite. Still beautiful art, however.
Superman #696 – Gotta say, I really liked the art this issue, and was caught off guard with that last page featuring a certain Legionaire.
Teen Titans #79 – Static Shock story (yawn). Also, Jaime & Aquagirl need to just bone already.
The Atom and Hawkman #46 – Cool things in this issue; we see some great Indigo action, and see Ray Palmer wanting nothing more than to resurrect his friends. Fantastic Ryan Sook art this issue!
The Sword #21 – Things are getting more and more intense with the series almost over and done with. This issue has Dara coming to the realization that she really needs to defeat Malia, or else everyone is screwed. Punches and blood with happen next issue, and lots of it!
The Walking Dead #69 – Another close encounter with the zombies before reaching Utopia, and things are actually starting to look like they’re going Rick & Co.’s way. Next question is, how long will the peace and harmony actually last?
The Amazing Spider-Man #619 – Marcos Martin’s art continues to blow my mind this issue, and the story is getting more and more thrilling. Then again, I do love me some Mysterio!
Thor #606 – So with the Doom arc done with, onwards to continuity & Siege!!!
Ultimate Comics: Enemy #1 – ‘meh’.
Wolverine: Origins #44 – It never ceases to confuse me when these stories are suppose to take place in continuity. They jump around more than an epileptic on sugar at a Daft Punk concert when it comes to continuity.
Wonder Woman #40 – I like these new Children of the Corn-esqe villains going after Wonder Woman. Then to turn Power Girl against her? Talk about a busty-babe-battle! Everyone wins when a vat of Jello is introduced next issue.
World’s Finest #4 – While the story has been pretty ‘meh’, Phil Noto’s art has been anything but.
X-Factor #201 – The mystery of the Invisible Woman continues with the suspicious Reed Richards showing his true colors. That, and the awesome twist at the end! Everything makes sense now.
X-Men: Legacy #232 – Rogue & Magneto versus the world! Well, what feels like it anyways. I’d like to see those two fight together on a team in the next Marvel vs Capcom videogame.
What did YOU enjoy/hate/like this week???
