I'm glad the Spider franchise is getting a do-over. I think that Raimi & Toby McGuire's era was good but had come to an end. It's probably not a good idea for the same creative team to do more than 3 of these franchise films in a row.

But wasn't Family cancelled shortly after Brand New Day? The current Web series is ok, it pretty much has some ancillary stories that tie into the 3xmonth Amazing as well as the Spider-Girl stuff. It is definitely marketed as an addition to ASM. Now what is this Peter Parker #1? A reprint of a marvel.com webcomic? I am not sure if I need that for my Spider-Man reading.
This conversation reminded me; where is this month's preview ep?
Jaime, I wrote a short extra credit paper in my MBA economics class this last fall on the price of comic books; Marvel is just testing the elasticity of their products.

No. It changed its name to "Amazing Spider-Man Family", but its last issue was coverdated September 2009.

I wasn't certain of how Web of actually came back just that I saw a new Web of starting at #1 recently. My point was, since the current Previews shows Web of as part of the Gauntlet storyline running in ASM it defeats the purpose of trimming the Spidey titles down to ASM. Even though ASM is a few times a month it was still one title to get all the main Spidey stories by adding Web of to this now there is more than one Spidey title in order to get the whole story. I was only pointing out that Marvel already messed up what they built up by only having ASM.
DC does the same thing, especially now that we have two JSA titles, multiple JLA, and especially many many Bat titles. Even though I think the Bat titles are pretty good I don't know how long I am going to keep getting all of them since it is so so many multi book titles. I was actually pretty impressed with Marvel to keep ASM they way it was. By adding Web of to this I am a little disappointed.

It's not essential to the Gauntlet story. It's for side stories. As always with Marvel & DC, how a comic is marketed isn't necessarily what you're getting when you buy it. It might be more obvious if you're reading the main Spidey book, but Gauntlet isn't really this cohesive continuing story line, it's more just a label they've put on a series of stories that have a loose connection (the new Kraven) that's leading to a specific as yet unknown story (though the Sinister 666 seems likely). Web of Spider-Man remains inessential, unless you're a Spider-Girl fan.

Listen to the 'MATINEE IDLES' podcast
Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

My feelings on the Avengers titles - I doubt they would do exactly the same thing they are doing with Spider-man. Spider-man works because it is one character. The Avengers is a team book with some of the characters in other books. I think it would be too hard to coordinate. Now, they might treat Avengers like they do Uncanny X-Men, which they publish about 18 issues a year. Bendis still will be the main writer and with a couple of spin-offs.
My feelings on Brightest Day - I don't have a problem with the bi-weekly series and they both sound pretty good. I am not sure the issue with a comic book being published twice a month when there are mini-franchises where there are multiple books a month that are linked to each other (i.e. Agents of Atlas, Marvel Cosmic, Hulk, and Superman). I also wouldn't call Brightest Day an event. It seems more of a brand/theme than a crossover event. When people say "event", people tend to associate that with crossovers.

Marvel teased/mentioned some kind of Street Level event/book a while back maybe that will be the 2nd-Tier Avengers title assuming the Thor, Iron Man, Cap is the main book in the line. Be nice to see Iron Fist come back in some capacity!
I'm already kind of sick of Blackest Night, so I have 0 excitement for Brightest Day, but I'll make a decision once it gets closer to coming out and maybe will even try it out for a few issues.
Thanks for giving me some holiday entertainment guys!

If Amazing Spider-Man continues at 3 times a month it will reach #1000 in July of 2020.
If it comes out 4 times a month then #1000 will come out in October of 2017.
That's IF my math is right.
