Major Wild Pig Comics news! including a full blown convention May 15th/16th!

Friends! I am closing the WildPig store at the end of Feb. My reasons are primarily personal and positive, as i am getting married and adopting two wonderful little boys. The self-destructive retail comic industry and families do not mix : )
That said, I am maintaining WildPig as a business entity. My Diamond account will remain open, and I will be running a mail order service for select customers. Most importantly, I will continue to run my 50% off sales twice a year, but only they will now be full blown conventions in a hotel. I've already booked the first event. Here are the particulars:
-May 15th, noon to 8 PM, and May 16th, 10 AM to 5 PM at the Springfield Holiday Inn on Route 22 West (minutes from the old WildPig Kenilworth location)
-Everything you've come to expect from a traditional WildPig sale will be present (tens of thousands of back issues, thousands of trades, free raffle, etc.), but now with so much more!
-I've reserved a full blown ball room (approx. 2700 square feet, which is twice the size of the old WildPig store!). Hence, customers will no longer have to jostle each other, suffer unpleasant odors, or find their freedom of movement constrained. This room is huge! The hotel also features a large Mexican restaurant and bar. I strongly encourage people to get a room Sat. night, as this will be a convention in every way (rooms, two doubles or one queen, are $99 a night, or $119 with breakfast). There will be dozens of artists sketching throughout the weekend. I'm not charging artists for their tables, so I have no doubt we will pack the room with guests. The only small change is that I have to charge a nominal entry fee, $5, to help cover the cost of the room, which is considerable. Of course, per usual, CGS customers will get that money back when they announce themselves at the register : )
-I will begin a thread on the CGS website at the beginning of March with all of the details, list of guests, etc. I will also bring flyers to the SuperShow (and book ad time on the podcast). Please feel free to begin talking up this event! If everything goes to plan, this will be the beginning of a new WildPig incarnation: the bi-annual 50% off WildPig Comics Convention!
Thanks,
Chris, WPII

One down side I can see: we'll have to drive to eat at the Kenilworth Diner! Mexican restaurants are fine, but they generally don't provide free pickles!

can't wait to have one more semi-local convention in the area.

Listen to the 'MATINEE IDLES' podcast
Comics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

Hotel thing sounds interesting. Glad to continue to have a reason to head south biannually.

This decision was not taken lightly, but it really is for the best.
We are in the process of getting a guest list together and hopefully we'll have some info to share with you guys soon.
If there are any questions, post em here or send me a PM and I'll do my best to answer them or pass them along to Chris.
Thanks again for all your support

While I will miss the old store I am, at the same time, excited for the WILD PIG II CON! At least I got to participate in one more adventrue at the old store this last time around.
Best wishes and luck and see you in May if not sooner!

Chris, I knew you were in a serious relationship for quite some time, it's awesome to hear that it's gone to that next level. WONDERFUL.
So long as I'm in town, I will be there for sure. In the meantime, congrats!
