WAY too soon! I actually really liked the casting and the continuity between the Spider-Man movies, so this was one franchise I really didn't want to see rebooted. Unlike the Fantastic Four, I feltl ike Spider-Man got more things right than things they did wrong... That's a damn shame!

Yes it's too soon. Unlike with Batman, there was no cast turnover, and there's only been a break of 3 years (5 once the new one comes out). Also, how different can you make an origin story? If they choose to bring him back to high school, I want it starting off the way the 90's series did: he's already Spider-Man, he's dealing with his adjustment to superhero life. Also, bring Gwen Stacy on instead of Mary Jane as girlfriend #1; unless you decide to do Ultimate Spider-Man, that is.

Overall though, not very optimistic about this.

Wow. That seems kind of... dumb.

A reboot should be generational. It shouldn't happen until your prime demographic has no memory of the last reboot.

NO!
Superheroes should be like James Bond. Switch it up.

I was wishing it would be Marvel getting back the rights, but the reboot is really what I've been hoping to see since 3. Get some new blood in the franchise, hopefully get a little closer to the character and his world. Then again, I was never a major fan of the Raimi series in the first place, so...there you go.

not too soon S3 was close to Batman and Robin lame, especially in light of stuff like the Dark Knight. Rami got the ball rolling, but he can't get out of teh way of his own silliness.

This is great news because..

You can go younger. get a 17 or 18 year old....Not a man almost 40.

Revolving directors ala Harry Potter will keep things fresh.

PREDICTION : These Spiderman movies will be looked at like Burton's Batman films years from now...cool, but NOTHING compared to what will have come after.

I'm guessing they will base their reboot off the Ultimate Spidey universe...Seems the other Marvel movies seem to be loosely basing their storylines off the Ultimates universe as well... thinking.gif

Can we please enact a ban on talk of a new Spider-Man movie unless something is confirmed. Please!

Thought I heard somewhere that John Malkovich was rocking The Vulture in the next movie. I'd be in for that alone:)

The only reason the reboot is coming so fast is so that the movie rights don't revert back to Marvel/Disney, right? My fear is they're just going to rush something out there to keep that from happening and it won't be very good.

Prior to Iron Man and Hulk, the Spidey movies were by far my favorite of the Marvel films, but having seen what can Marvel can do on its own I was really hoping they would get control back (still keeping my fingers crossed that'll happen for FF and X-Men).

I'm ready for a new vision for the character, I just hope its a good one.

Not too soon for a reboot.
About the same time gap as the Hulk movies and that worked. OK, it worked for ME anyway.
And like someone else has said, Batman Returns to Forever was a reboot.

Personally I love Raimi but I've seen 3 of his Spidey films now. I'd rather him go do some fun projects of his own and give someone else a shot.

Plus a reboot means we might get a Green Goblin that isnt a Power Ranger or a Venom thats actually bigger than Spider-man.

And of course not forgetting that for the main target audience (thats young kids, not us old comic bastards) the gap of four years is HUGE

I have a LOT of trouble understanding this one...since they have already signed contracts with Maguire and Raimi and they'll have to pay them off if they want to break the contracts. I do think that the first movie sped through the high school aspect WAY too fast, but a reboot?

And has everyone forgotten that SM3 made almost $900 million?

Boy, that came out of nowhere. I know they were having some disagreements with Raimi, but this seems pretty drastic.

Honestly, neither Sony or Raimi fill me with confidence. As much as I liked the first two films, the third one was not only a disappointment, but watching it amplified, for me anyway, what didn't work for me in the first two. I'm not sure a fourth film in that series was going to turn things around for me.

And like others have said, when I saw the first film, I was stunned by how fast they flew through the high school years. That felt like a lot of story ideas thrown out the window.

If I had to choose, though, I think I'd still lean toward letting Raimi do at least one or two more. Ending on that third film doesn't feel right.

This is way too soon. I think Sony got scared and decided to reboot. I think this could be huge mistake. To get a new director and actors is one thing, but to reboot a successful franchise seems... stupid.
