Waiting for my next DCBS shipment w/ two weeks worth of comics & Blackest Night #6 & Previews is comic related agony. Avoiding everything w/ Blackest Night title or thread related is tough on my willpower.

Pants beat me to it . . . "the year we don't make contact."

Speaking of Game Night, I picked up a copy of Settlers of Catan during a holiday clearance.
I've been absorbing all the rules and strategies ever since.
You know, just in case a spontaneous Settlers game ever breaks out sometime.

You're welcome at my place any Friday night, Marty. We're always happy to play Settlers.

I'm with Jaime on Sherlock Holmes. It wasn't nearly as over the top as the trailers were making it out to be. One thing that was very satisfying to me was that Ritchie made Watson a character that Holmes would consider worthy of his friendship and partnership, as opposed to going the way most other big and small screen Sherlock Holmes productions and making Watson a fat, incompetent boob.

And, yes, the Clash of the Titans trailer does look like Clash of the 300 — as does the Spartacus: Blood and Sand trailer. Am I the only person who thinks 300 was an awful movie? I loved the comic, but the movie put me to sleep.

gotta say while i enjoyed sherlock holmes it was not anywhere near as great as i had hoped it to be.

But bryan it is closer to Holmes stories then you'd think, most common way we precive holmes is more off BBC Films and TV then the actual books

It was cool that while Bryan and Pants were describing where the Crown Plaza was I was actually able to envision it since I went last year. The Hooters point of reference helped!

listening to pants and murd talking about buying silver age comics made me think... i really can't seem to enjoy reading silver age comics...

it's just too campy and too kid oriented for me...

maybe it's like wine... i need to get a little older and more educated to appreciate silver age and golden age comics??

i was reading some reprinted superman team-up books... superman and deadman, superman and firestorm, etc... it was just too campy... superman was performing surgery and he was able to do things with his powers that i've never seen him do before...

has anyone had the same experience??

Summit City looks like a con I can make. Its only three hours from Detroit. A one day con and one week after Motor City Con. And a CGS appearance would be cool. Then I can go back for the Ding-And-Dent sale if they still plan to have it again.

From what I've seen of the movie and what I've read of the books, while they do have more of an action focus in the movie, it's actually more faithful then some of the other Holmes movies I've seen--he's always had an action element to him, even being one of the first Europeans to know martial arts in literature.

yes I get a employee discount for life once I worked there Lem gave me that even for the few years I didnt work, I know what they make on the comics and yes they could work with us but I dont want to ask them to, again not our place really it should come from the company and they always give us the subscriber discount but in PA we have tax of 6% which wipes out the discount pretty much, doing the business over the web you get the true discount and more since there is no tax to be had and the shipping isnt really that much. Golden Eagle would always give a good deal on big items at close to their rates , and when I was manager I often did. I cant speak for all but for me I feel it would be rude to aproach a business and just ask for a discount, they appreciate all we do for them and they know we deal with DCBS but most of us still go to them for certian things and usually come out with something each time we visit and that cannot be said for other business I frequent

The Nuge's review of Sherlock Holmes over on the Geek Syndicate forum deals with how this movie version gets quite close to the source material.

Interestingly at the Birmingham comic-con I heard Ian Edginton talking about adapting the stories into graphic novels for the Self Made Hero company, and he discussed how the original stories has Holmes and Watson as men of action.

I've only read their Hound of the Baskervilles adaptation so far and it was rather good.

Jamie,
About your question on Echo, Terry might have taken some liberties on the science, but I've heard of the math before. I've always known it as the golden proportion or the golden ratio. As described in the comic, it's everywhere in nature. There's a lengthy Wikipedia article on it under golden ratio.
