Action Comics #884 - So Lois Lane and her father General Lane have a nice little reunion with talks of her commiting treason. D'awww! What a touching moment. In the co-feature, I'm really happy to see Captain Atom back in the DCU, but now he has to pay for his past sins! I really liked the art with his story.
Adventure Comics #5 - Not a lot of people like Superboy-Prime, but I for one love his constant complaining and tempertantrums. Having to face all these undead zombies, who does he blame? The staff at DC headquarters in New York of course! I chuckled at Johns' multiple pokes and jabs at the typical rage-filled comic book fans, because a lot of it is just so spot-on. Also, the Superboy co-feature with Manapul's art was just gorgeous. This issue is well worth the pricetag.
Amazing Spider-Man #614 - While this arc was nothing spectacular, it was wild to see the destruction of the Daily Bugle. Justice is served, the bad guy is captured, and more importantly, the Sinister Six's rank grow once more. Next issue features the Sandman, so I'm pretty excited!
B.P.R.D.: War On Frogs #4 - This issue dealt with the very interesting topic of where do the souls of the frogs go when they die? Well they didn't have to deal with that topic before, mainly because the frogs had no souls. But now since they're infecting humans, and the in-between ones still have souls, it starts to become a touchy subject for Johann. I enjoyed this issue because of it.
Batgirl #5 - Okay, this series has been steadily growing on me, and I think this issue finally got me hooked. The interactions between Batgirl and Damien are hilarious! These two could star in their own series together and I would totally pick it up. So I demand more of them both pronto!
Black Widow: Deadly Origin #2 - While it's interesting to see some of the backstory on Natasha and what she was up to in the early days, this miniseries so far hasn't screamed 'must read' to me. The art constantly changes throughout, and the styles were so different, that I think that's what really curled my milk. Plus it wasn't the best Adi Granov cover in my opinion.
Booster Gold #27 - This issue was just so much fun throughout! Booster versus Ted Kord, with the new Blue Beetle really stepping-up and showing why he's doing the mantle justice. It's issues like this one that remind me why Booster Gold is the best superhero that history will never know.
Dark X-Men #2 - The concept was an interesting one; hundreds of HAMMER psychics forming one big brain to track down X-Man. Can't say I was all that thrilled with this issue.
Daytripper #1 - Could very well be my Pick of the Week. Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon have exciting things planned with this series, and so far the first issue was absolutely gorgeous! Dave Stewart on colors, Moon on the art, it's eye-candy pure and simple. With the cool twist ending, I can't wait to see what happens next.
DC Universe Holiday Special - The only story I'll highlight (because in my opinion, it was the only one worth spotlighting) was Scott Kolins' Deadman story. His art looked very pretty.
Deadpool #18 - Call him crazy, insane, mental, whatever you want; but always know that he has a plan. It was fun to see him with the X-Men for awhile, but all good things must come to an end. This is the only Deadpool series that you should be picking-up at the moment in my opinion. The other series are okay, but I definitely laugh the most with Daniel Way's run.
DMZ #48 - Ah, revenge is a dish best served cold, and that's exactly what Matty has planned this issue with the UN Troops that give him a good beat-down. Tensions are higher than ever now, and next issue will reveal what will happen with the nuke.
Doom Patrol #5 - Got your lantern ring from buying issue 4? Good, now skip this issue and the rest of the run.
Ghost Riders: Heaven's On Fire #5 - This action-packed issue was my favorite of the miniseries, for it really showed everyone and everything coming together for one big massive brawl; nuns with guns, religious wackos, and Ghost Riders aplenty. Next issue is going to be even more insane; Ketch & Blaze versus the newly appointed God. Shit is going to be going down!
Green Arrow / Black Canary #27 - While the art has improved, the story still hasn't. Some of the little details just rub me the wrong way; Ollie not only keeps a mini tracking device in every arrow shaft, but a tiny camera also?! C'mon, really? The tracking device I can believe, but not the camera.
Incredible Hulk #605 - Bruce, we get it; you're training your son to be the ultimate warrior / heir to the title of 'Hulk', but do you really need to play around with these elaborate lessons involving entire cities and monsters from another world? Just let the kid make his own choices, teach him about the birds & the bees, and send him on his way with his huge sword. I gotta say though, I love Olivetti's art in this.
Invincible Iron Man #21 - Goddamn was this a great issue. Moving on from the huge spoilers that Steve Rogers is back, it was really emotional with the parts with Pepper struggling to make her own choices about Tony's situation. Nice to see some of Tonys best buds doing their best to help reboot him, using parts from Pepper's suit, Cap's sheild, and Thor's lightning. And how about that cover? Gorgeous. This issue was a definite homerun.
Nation X - Okay, so I thought this was going to be an event / miniseries of sorts, but it's just another excuse for Marvel to give you a bunch of short stories revolving around the mutants and Utopia. Nothing exciting happens, and the first story in particular felt really lame with the gang of Young Mutants running around like the gang from Scooby Doo in the underground caves looking for ghosts. Laaame. The only one I liked was Allred's art on Nightcrawler and Logan.
Punisher MAX #2 - Very grusome issue as Fisk starts his rise to the fictional top (except to him, it's the real deal). Great to see how brutal and unforgiving Fisk is, all while getting his history at the same time. I gotta say, Frank has one hell of a fight on his hands in the future issues!
R.E.B.E.L.S. #11 - What happens when an unstoppable force (Black Lanterns) meet an unmovable object (Starro the Conqueror)? You get one gigantic clusterfuck, that's for sure! It was really entertaining to see the self-proclaim conqueror of the universe go up against the Black Lanterns, who are drawn to him like moths to the flame with all the rage he's producing.
Red Robin #7 - Slowly starting to drop the series. And taking Raz out that easily? Please.
Secret Six #16 - A whole lot of fun in this issue, and I gotta say I really like Black Alice as the newest addition to the team. Art looks great, Simone writes another enjoyable story, what other reason do you need to pick-up one of the best series at DC??
Titans #20 - Donna Troy story, and I don't care in the slightest.
Wolverine: Under The Boardwalk - I really liked the grittiness of the art with this one-shot. It reminded me a little of a blend between Sean Philips and Tommy Lee Edwards.
More to come when I find some more time. What did YOU like / dislike this week so far???
