Lets get this ball rollin'!
Action Comics #883 – To be perfectly honest, I can’t even remember what this issue was about.
Amazing Spider-Man #611 – Pick of the Week, hands-down. There was so much to enjoy in this issue, that it hit you from all sides. Joe Kelly does such a fantastic job writing both Spidey and Deadpool, that I wouldn’t mind seeing an on-going team-up of the two (written by Kelly, of course). Everything from YO MAMA jokes to the Blackest Night references (with approval by Geoff Johns!), this issue was Grade-A fun.
B.P.R.D. 1947 #5 – Alas, like the previous miniseries before it (1946), all good things must come to an end. It might have been the final issue, but boy did it sure go out with a BANG! With the exorcism being the main focus in the finale, Mignola couldn’t have asked for two better artists than Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. Their art always leaves me wanting more, just like these B.P.R.D. minis do.
Batgirl #4 – Surprisingly, I’ve found myself slowly enjoying this series more issue after issue. Even if I don’t like the notion of Spoiler being Batgirl, I can appreciate what this creative team is doing with her.
Batman #693 – Tony Daniels continues to amaze me with both his writing and art for this arc. The man’s a machine! The action and story constantly entertain, and have me craving more and more. I suppose I’ll go read the Battle For The Cowl event again to calm my nerves while I wait.
Batman / Doc Savage Special – While I haven’t any background with Doc Savage, I gotta say I loved Noto’s art on this. It’ll be interesting to see where this new series will be going in the next few months.
Batman And Robin #6 – More of the Flamingo! I demand it! That has to be one of my new favorite villains this year, and that gorgeous Frank Quitely cover of him paints him in quite the wicked light. I don’t think for a moment that’s the last we’ve seen of the pink fellow. Another good issue all around!
Black Terror #5 – ‘meh’
Booster Gold #26 – Dan Jurgens pulls out all the stops to make this issue not only accessible to new readers, but a creepy Blackest Night tie-in! While Booster is MIA while he’s revisiting Ted’s funeral, back in the present the same Ted Kord is reanimated and wreaking havoc as a Black Lantern. Myself being a big Ted Kord fan, was both terrified and psyched to see this new twist on Blue Beetle, and can’t wait to see him battle with Booster next issue! Plus I got a cool Orange Ring too!
Cable #20 – While the past few issues have been sort of lackluster (in my humble opinion), this issue really kicked it up a notch with a cool space battle with aliens, Bishop, Cable, and Hope. Of course Bishop still hasn’t killed Hope, but they’re all on the run again by the end of the issue, and we get a little sneak peak of how Hope continues to transform into a sexy young X-Man. Surely it must make some fans uncomfortable that the new sexy Hope was just a baby a mere dozen issues ago? You’d think that has to be an erection-killer.
Chronicles of Wormwood: The Last Battle #2 – I dunno, I feel like I had a more enjoyable time with Ennis’ first Wormwood series. To be honest, I could have done without a sequel. Who knows? Perhaps this one will surprise me and get me hooked next issue.
Daredevil #502 – Nice to see that Master Izo isn’t pining for the fjords, but actually helping Matt & Co. take down the Hand from the inside. I can see Matt accomplishing this mission, but a part of me feels like he’ll have to literally sacrifice everything, including himself to do so. And how about that Esad Ribic cover? Simply gorgeous.
Dark X-Men #1 – If you liked Osborn’s team of X-Men in the Utopia event, then you’ll probably enjoy this miniseries heartily. Gotta say I didn’t see that ending coming.
DMZ #47 – Matty Roth is a badass motherfucker (in case you didn’t know). This whole storyline about Parco, Matty, and the Nuke is riveting and suspenseful, and for a book like DMZ, anything could happen. A total page-turner that makes me loathe waiting a month for the next exciting issue!
Doctor Who #5 – While the previous Doctor Who comics kept me at bay between seasons, this new ongoing is doing the opposite; I’m having such a fun time with these issues, that I don’t mind if the TV series is delayed a few months. It’s THAT good. A definite ‘must read’ for Doctor Who fans young and old.
Fables #90 – Big happenings are starting to happen at the Farm, more specifically in the witching group. With Frau T. gone new leadership is chosen, meanwhile Frau T. is on her own mission of learning the tricks of the infamous Boxing group. With Mr. Dark almost complete with his castle, something wicked this way comes to the Farm.
Gravel #15 – It’s interesting to see Gravel starting to put together a new Minor Seven to defend Britain. Even more interesting? The fact that Her Majesty has a man talking to Gravel about the relationship the magicians have with the Royal Family. Let the good times roll!
Green Arrow Black Canary #26 – Interesting conversation with himself, but the thing that really makes me lose focus is the art, and how radically different it is throughout.
Green Lantern Corps #42 – If you know me, you’ll know that I was never a fan of Kyle. I’m Pro-Hal, and always will be, but despite my feelings towards the younger Lantern, I gotta give Peter Tomasi huge props for having him go out a hero, and making me care. He did the same thing to me in Final Crisis: Requiem with the Martian Manhunter, almost moving me to tears. Because of his death, things are going to drastically change next issue, especially with a Red Lantern ring still hovering around, and Guy just realizing his best friend just died. Uh-oh.
Hellboy: The Wild Hunt #8 – Very satisfying conclusion to this epic miniseries. The art, the story, the colors; all beyond amazing. But alas, this is only the prologue to the huge battle for Britain lurking just around the corner. Imagine the damage he can do with both his rock fist AND a sword! Sushi, anyone?
JSA vs Kobra #6 – I’m just not a fan of people turning into snake people. I just find it ridiculous (I know, it’s ridiculous to find it ridiculous in comics, but it’s just how I feel).
Luke Cage Noir #4 – I enjoyed this miniseries. It wasn’t as great as Spider-Man Noir or as bad as X-Men Noir, but it was good enough for me to recommend to people. And those Tim Bradstreet covers? Gorgeous.
Punisher MAX #1 – Jason Aaron? Check. Steve Dillon? Check. Awesome start to a new Punisher MAX series? Motherfuckin’ Check! If you were a fan of the Garth Ennis runs of Punisher in Marvel Knights and MAX series, then this is definitely right up your alley. Aaron does a great job setting-up this story arc focusing on Wilson Fisk and his rise to the top as the Kingpin; a force to be reckoned with. Punisher fans rejoice!
Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard #1 – Poor Gladiator; he doesn’t want to rule a kingdom; it’s boring. What he really wants to do is get out there and fuck shit up again! We’re only one issue in, and I’m already digging this series. Fans of War of Kings, NOVA, and Guardians of the Galaxy (basically the Marvel Cosmic series) will have a most enjoyable time with this new series.
R.E.B.E.L.S. #10 - I only picked up this issue for the ring, and little did I know I'd fall in love with the story / series. I remember loathing the first few issues when it debuted, but this single issue makes me want to go back and give it another shot. Why? I had such a fun time reading it, that I simply crave more.
Red Robin #6 – Some leader Tim turns out to be, huh? Captures one of the enemy, but at the expense of his entire ninja assassin team. Was it worth it, Tim? Those men and women had families, dammit!
Supergod #1 – The latest (and rumored final) series of the Warren Ellis trilogy involving dark man-made superheroes (Black Summer, No Hero, now Supergod). It’s off to a good start, as we learn about what countries were experimenting with superhumans before the current post-apocalyptic setting. India’s Krishna is truly terrifying, as he can take the nukes being launched from Pakistan, turn them around, create a forcefield around Pakistan, and bomb them back to the Stone Age. Fuck! Can’t wait to see some of the other abominations that the other countries are creating!
The Walking Dead #67 – Okay, if I found out that new piece of information about the government scientist in MY group, then I’d fucking kill him. End of story.
Titans #19 – Boring issue, boring character spotlight.
Vengeance of the Moon Knight #3 – While this series tripped-up on the second issue, this issue finds its footing again. So while I was nervous last issue, this one gives me hope again.
X-Force #23 – I know that this is their own little event in the Marvel Universe, but it just feels a lot like Blackest Night to me, only without rings. The dead are being reanimated and attacking the heroes? During this time of the year? I know I know, two separate companies doing their own thing, but I’m just saying it’s very similar thing. Other than that little gripe, it was a very fun and action-packed issue with some absolutely beautiful art. This series is getting involved with some great events (Messiah War before this one).
What did YOU think of the books this week??

I enjoyed The Unwritten, as always. It's nice to see Tom start discovering his powers. Fables and Amazing Spider-man were great. Like I've said a dozen time already, I'm excited about the new Punisher Max run. I thought the internal artwork of Batman and Robin could've been better, but it was still a fun issue. Deadpool was hilarious, as always.

And I was just starting to feel good for them, thinking "maybe everything will be alright after all!"
Damn you Kirkman for toying with my emotions once again!
