Blackest Night #2 - For those who would label Aquaman as an underwater pansy, I think this issue makes up for all those years of mockery. Not only is he a badass zombie, but he sics sharks on his own Atlanteans! What the fuck! You also get more Black Lantern members joining the ranks, including Deadman (ironically), Spectre, Garth, and even Abin Sur! This was jam-packed with action, and to think this is only another set-up issue! I can't wait to see the man in the back say "everyone attack!" and watch it turn into a ballroom blitz!
Green Lantern Corps #39 - If anything, this issue should have come out the same week as Blackest Night #1. It felt a few weeks late, for we already saw the Corps come back to life in the main event last month. Still a fun issue, and it'll be interesting to see the Corps get out of their current mess.
Blackest Night: Batman #1 - I liked the issue. It was very interesting to see not only Dick's parents come back, but Tim's as well. Deadman makes a cameo to talk to both Damien and Dick, and this crisis is so big and important that even Red Robin himself is returning home from overseas.
Adventure Comics #1 - I'm glad that Geoff Johns is writing this title, because in my opinion, only he knows how to write the Superman family. I enjoyed this issue, and will be interested to see how Conner does in the DC universe these next couple of months. If they put him and Bart back on the Teen Titans roster, I would totally start reading that series again.
Batman #689 - Nice to see Two-Face using Batman to take down the Penguin, and nice to see Dick knowing he's being played. I still don't understand all the smiling Batman does in this series, because yes I get that Dick's having a fun time, but he needs to be a little bit more serious like Bruce was when wearing the mantle.
Amazing Spider-Man #602 - I like the creepy return of the Chameleon, and it's funny to see Peter working for JJJ Jr. again. As for Mary Jane, she can tone it down a little. I'm just wondering how Peter escaped from the Chameleon's clutches at the end there!
Red Robin #3 - Still my least-favorite of all the Batman books. Not a fan of Tim working with Ra's al Ghul and his band of merry ninjas, and this whole series sort of feels like just watching Tim go on a wild goose chase, because lets be honest; is he really going to find Bruce in this title? No.
Ultimate Comics: Avengers #1 - Thank god the reign of Jeph Loeb is over! I love the commentary from Millar on the first page with Nick Fury; "I leave for 10 minutes, and everything goes to hell!" Although the team at this point only consists of Captain America, Hawkeye, and Iron Man, I trust that Millar is going to add more familiar faces to the team in the near future. And how awesome was the reveal that Red Skull is Cap's son?! That's a twist I didn't see coming!
Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1 - The perfect jumping-on point for me. I've been trying to catch-up on the original Ultimate Spider-Man run, but I won't be finishing it anytime soon. With this issue, it's a nice little catch-up on all the important things you need to know, and the introduction to one of my favorite Spidey villains, Mysterio! You know he means business if he throws the Kingpin the window! Can't wait to see what happens next.
Uncanny X-Men #514 - I remember I was loving this series for the story, and loathing it for the art. Now it's the exact opposite! Terry Dodson's art in this is gorgeous, and makes every character look like a million bucks. Fraction's story is entertaining, but not the strongest in this issue.
The Marvels Project #1 - Interesting. While I'm kind of warming-up to this first issue, it's the art that I found myself really digging. Knowing it's Brubaker writing, I'll be picking-up the second issue regardless.
The Walking Dead #64 - It was enjoyable to see Dale get the last laugh, then knocked-out by the pissed-off cannibals. Nice to see that it's going to be a shoot-out next issue, and it'll be more interesting because these cannibals are practically zombies with brains and firearms. Also, The Walking Dead on AMC? I would have been happier if it was HBO or Showtime.
Deadpool #13 - Ahoy! It's Captain Deadpool and Parrot Hydra Bob! Guns mounted on tugboats, blind hot chicks, and the teaching stick all make this issue crazy fun!
B.P.R.D. 1947 #2 - I love the transitions from Ba's art to his brother Moon's art, for it just fits so well for this title. Both artists' styles fit so naturally in the Hellboy universe, that I'd love to see some more from them in the future. Fun issue, gorgeous art, a must-read for fans of Dark Horse.
Hellboy: The Wild Hunt #5 - Speaking of Hellboy and great artists, this is another fantastic issue in the series. I only wish they came out more often! Duncan Fegredo's art in this rocked the house, and Dave Stewart's colors are fantastic and really make the action pop-off the page.
Booster Gold #23 - The only this I really enjoyed about this issue was Blair Butler (Fresh Ink) on the cover. The comic industry needs more Blair Butler covers!
Fables #87 - Nice to see Bigby and Snow get back to the Farm, only to start back to square one with the whole Mister Dark situation. If it's not one disaster, it's another. And from the looks of things, yet another big disaster is right around the corner with the escape of Baba Yaga! Can these Fables ever get a vacation? Totally fun issue!
Cable #17 - So THIS is how Hope is going to reach the same age as the rest of the X-Men! Glad to see her and Nathan back together, but one thing I was not a fan of this issue was the art.
Lockjaw & The Pet Avengers #4 - Nice little way to end this enjoyable series. Great for both old readers, young readers, and new readers for sure. Basically, fun for the whole family.
X-Men: Forever #5 - Reminds me why I don't miss the 90's.
Red Circle: The Inferno #1 - I really enjoyed the last Red Circle issue more. This one? Not so much.
Marvel Divas #2 - Cancer? Boooring! Listen, if you're looking for a kickass series with badass babes, skip this one and pick-up Gotham City Sirens instead. Especially if they're trying to sell you this crap for a $4 price tag.
DMZ #44 - While this was an interesting story-arc, the "happy ending" is when the soldier realizes what he's doing is wrong, and saves lives by taking his own. Loved the Ryan Kelly art, and hope to see him again as a guest artist on this series.
Starstruck #1 - I felt like I was on acid while trying to read this issue. Bright colors, naked chicks, and space. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it now. The art reminded me a lot of Frank Quitely's though.
Atomika #10 - Killer issue with Atomika and Koschei the Deathless clashing like titans! Sal's art in this issue is just so beautiful to look at, and it really fits the gritty tone of the book well. I really like when Atomika throws him into the sun, and he'll keep dying, then coming back to life for the next billion years. Now for the main event next issue; Atomika versus Arohnir!
Very enjoyable week for comics!
