Yeah I was wondering where does the black spidey costume come from ... it in the based during secret wars, but what planet does it come from? I saw in an current issue of something another character had a venom like creature around him ... I ffigure he can't be the only one ... minus the spawns of him.

Hey Peter, Arthur Suydam did a parody of this cover when he was doing all of his zombie versions of classic covers. I remembered seeing this one, but I don't remember which issue or collection this was the cover to.

I think it's apparent that Shooter intended for the costume to be a Major Plot Device for the coming years of Spidey (his hesitance before the costume first showed up in print not withstanding), based simply on the way it grew up his arm and set off his Spidey Sense. I veery highly doubt he had Venom in mind, but he definitely wanted it to be something big for the Spidey writers to work with.
One thing I've always wondered is how does Petey see thru the damned thing? Are the eyespots simply thin transparent membranes when the symbiote's on him, or does it slime itself over Petey's eyes and act as cameras on the external surface and a monitor screen on the inner surface, or even slime itself around his eyeballs entirely and hook itself directly into his visual neurons? I'm thinking that last bit is definitely what it wants to do and eventually does end up doing with Brock and Gargan, as evidenced by how it distorts the body, most notably in the alterations to the number and shape of the teeth, how wide the jaw can open, and the ludicrous size of the tongue.
And I wonder what would happen if Rogue touched it.

Another thing about this series is how brutal it is. It has a lot of scenes that you just didn't see back in the day, such as Wolvie actually cutting someone with his claws (it was always just off-panel or covered with so much black splotchy ink as to effectively censored), and a bunch of villains ganging up on a woman.
It's also fairly misogynistic, with the only 'death' in the whole series being that of a woman, SheHulk getting her ass trounced in the aforementioned gang-beating, Titania getting her ass trounced by Spidey, Enchantress shown as a falling-down drunk whiner, Volcana being shown as a smother-mother who lets everyone call her fat, Invisible Woman being ignored entirely, and Wasp reverting to her vacuous social gadfly days. The only chick not treated downright badly is Storm, who's pretty much barely even there and yet also suffers from having her leadership usurped. Chicks got the short end of the Beyonder's stick - which might somehow also play into my pet 'worldwide subliminal suggestion' theory since women were still dealing with equality issues left over from the 70s and the Beyonder's mindset might well have thought women were supposed to be secondary citizens.

Notes:
ISSUE 8
cover: proof that this series really was about promotion over anything else - there will come "a costume!"
- pg2 - what the hell is a quonset hut? / love love love Enchantress in this series
- pg4 - Absorbing Man "believe me, I know" - Doc Ock acting like a villain should!
- pg6 - Spider-Man's spidersense is a secret
- pg8 - Spider-Womans fifth fight? / what Hawkeye says: is it true?
- pg12 - "900" yards of corridors later - more hyperbole
- pg15-16 - Spider-Man vs Titania - which will turn into an irrational fear for her later
- pg18 - Torch's nova flame
- pg22 - Zsaji dies - Colossus never even kissed her! / Wasp's wahn wahn moment
- pg23 - Richards and Rhodey (in terms of the Illuminati special this is an interesting scene)
