Blackest Night #1 KICKED ASS!!!
5 out of 5!!! Comic Excellence!!!!
Unless Ryan Reynolds pulls a Bale quality performance I will always think of him as Van Wilder.

Alan Scott is going to die.
There's going to be some sort of White Lantern.
Due to the Anti-Monitor, your going to have something with Barry Allen and Crisis.
Barry Allen dies again.
Tons of gratuitous violence.
Batman and his skeleton is going to have something to do with the outcome of the story.

Peter, did you feel the same way about Lawrence Olivier playing all those Henrys?
I didn't have a preference as to who played Hal, but after Bradley Cooper did Jennifer Aniston the way he did. I think he has Hal's spirit down.

Just wanted to mention that the Episode 50 that Adam mentioned of Legion of Dudes will be LIVE!! on Stickam Aug. 2nd 9PM EST and we will be giving away many prizes from fine folks like Top Cow, Zenescope, Magnolia Films, Top Shelf and many others. live.legionofdudes.com is the address.
Nathan Fillion should've been Hal Jordan and my mind cannot be changed on this.

As for the Black Lantern and Lantern corp. in general, its kind of silly of you dwell on it too long, but I guess so is most superhero elements.
And in my opinion, Geoff Johns does not write very accessible superhero comics, so I think that criticisms that this wasn't accessible are kind of odd. His books have always been heavily drenched in the liquid of continuity, so I don't really get the criticism.
Ryan Reynolds would be a good Kyle Rayner (IMO).

I felt that I should probably have explained my rating.
I enjoyed Sinestro Corp War pretty much. And since I haven't really been reading much DC at all, I was excited about the prospect of Blackest Night. I generally really enjoy Johns's writing, so I was hoping for something to suck me back into the DCU.
Blackest Night 0 really didn't move me at all. I knew it was a prelude, so I didn't really count that. Then I read #1, and while I thought it was a pretty entertaining issue, it didn't really suck me in.
I'm not sure why, but for some reason, despite all that happened, I just didn't care that dead heroes where being resurrected and in turn were killing more people.
I'm hopefull that issue 2 will do a little more to excite me. I want this to be an awesome series.

I think you kind of missed my point. I agree with you. My point was that to criticism him for not writing accessible comics is kind of irrelevant and odd.
As to Infinite Crisis, it was not really a jumping on point, but a means to a jumping on point. Sure you could have read Infinite Crisis as your first DC comic (it was actually only my second DC comic behind Rebirth). Was it accessible? I say no. I'll argue that. Just because someone says something in a voicemail doesn't make it the only valid opinion. I can argue that Infinite Crisis are not accessible. It actually doesn't make too much sense if you read it on its own like I did. Now, if you read the original Crisis then it makes a lot more sense.
I honestly don't give a fuck if Geoff Johns is writing accessible comics, because if he doesn't its not like I'm going to lose sleep over it. I accept it as a weakness in his writing.
P.S. Chris Clairemont is not a good writer. Just had to get my piece in.

that's a fair opinion bry, I personally have read no green lantern at all since rebirth so I didn't feel any of the anticipation many felt leading up to this issue. I absolutely LOVED the issue though and I'm really looking forward to issue 2. even if I'd hated the issue I would have given it a high score because the art was absolutely freaking incredible.

Did you finally get the second volume of Sinestro Corps War? I felt a little let down by BN #1 as well. After all the build up we experienced it kind of slowed down with this issue but I do understand that it is necessary to make it accessible to new readers.
For some reason I am half expecting the "white lantern" to be the ultimate baddie...then again we also have infrared and ultra violet on the far ends of the spectrums...(I got that from the Lantern Cast).
...other forums members wanted to know if there was a limit to how many episodes they can guest host on? I tried explaining that you probably want everyone to have a turn...right?

Like this?

or this?

See, this is the trap and the best argument for not having a joining of the rings or white lantern.
