Let's get this ball rollin'!
Green Lantern #43 - Finally, The Blackest Night prologues end with this issue, and next week the actual event finally begins! I loved this stand-alone issue focusing on William Hand, and found him to be one very disturbed kid. But hey, at least he wants to take over the family business of preserving the dead, right? Very clever use of the Black Lantern's symbol coming from the family business, and very grotesque way of receiving a ring. The wait is over people, tune in next week for awesomeness!
Wednesday Comics #1 - Some people are treating this retro format as the second coming of Gog, but I personally am not impressed with the final product. $4 for a newspaper? I understand that the writers and artists on this project are all Grade-A people, but one story per page doesn't give you a whole lot of room. Basically you get an overpriced newspaper filled with continuous cliffhangers. I can get a Sunday edition of the LA Times for $1.50, and get colored comics too. I advise anyone interested in this title to wait to find it in the $1 bins at conventions, because the current price is a rip-off in my opinion.
Batman #688 - Loving the art, but not so much the story. Stick with Morrison & Quitely's run on Batman & Robin to get the right amount of bang for your buck.
Red Robin #2 - Finally deciding to make a deal with the devil by the end of the issue? Seems a little rushed, but I'll be interested to see what he and Ra's discover together.
Superman: World of New Krypton #5 - Interesting to see Kal on trial for his "crimes", but it felt like the issue ended with a deus ex machina ending with the sentencing falling on a Kryptonian holiday celebrating forgiveness.
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #36 - Funny to see Peter in a different location (Bah-ston) other than New York, but terribly confusing with the re-introduction of Ben Riley at the end of the issue. As if Peter doesn't have enough on his plate already! Well at least he has his hot cousins to keep him company.
Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1 - Is it me, or was Namor written out of character in this issue? First of all, why the hell does he need to take a shower?! He's constantly in water already, right? Anyways, interesting issue, but didn't amaze me like I thought it would. I do like seeing Cloak & Dagger again though, and am glad to see Dagger sporting the same outfit.
B.P.R.D. 1947 #1 - So excited that this series is back, and even more excited that both Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon are doing the gorgeous art! It's just a set-up issue, but it's fun and exciting nonetheless. Mignola covers, and Ba & Moon interiors? Color me overjoyed.
Booster Gold #22 - Wasn't thrilled to see that era of the Teen Titans, but it was fun reading the Blue Beetle feature in the back.
War of Kings: Warriors #1 - Not a MUST READ crossover, but if you are a fan of Gladiator, by all means pick it up.
Ms Marvel #41 - Fun to see Deadpool, Spidey, and Logan all in one book together. That, and the neat return of Carol Danvers.
No Hero #6 - Holy crap did this issue turn it up to 11! Upon realizing that everything he dreamed of was pretty much fake, Joshua goes ape-shit crazy and starts killing his team left and right. Ryp's gorgeously detailed artwork on this issue was fantastic, and Ellis' writing is top-notch as usual. A must read for fans of Black Summer.
House of Mystery #15 - What a twist! Okay, we now know that Harry is the house, but now how to release the staff, let alone battle forces of evil? Cool fights, crazy movie ideas, all left with the cliffhanger of where is the house located now?
Uncanny X-Men: First Class #1 - Okay, so the labeling of a majority of the X-books "First Class" is starting to get old, but I found myself enjoying this issue for the most part. Colossus and Nightcrawler visit the Inhumans, and Kurt accidentally gets himself into trouble. Fun stuff, and I'll go ahead and pick-up the next issue just to see where it goes from here.
Punisher MAX #72 - Frank versus an unruly mob of inbred hicks? No problem. Frank versus alligator vest-wearing Earl? Fuck, Frank's in trouble. Nice bloody and disturbing issue, and I can't wait to see what kind of 'back-up' this lost thug is going to provide Frank with.
North 40 #1 - I kind of lost interest within the first few pages, but perhaps I'll go back and flip through it again soon because people have been expressing some enjoyment with it.
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly #1 - If you're a fan of the movies or wild west comics in general, you'll probably enjoy it. I was enjoying The Man With No Name series more.
Tom Strong Special Edition #1 - It's a reprint, yes, but if you've never read Alan Moore's Tom Strong before, do yourself a favor and pick this issue up. Fantastic stuff, and you'll be hooked for sure.
Like I said, pretty light week this week. What did YOU like / dislike?
