Tons of stuff came out this week, so lets get this ball rollin'!
Captain America #600 - In a nutshell, over-hyped. I personally would have loved to have seen Bucky as Captain America for another few years, because I think he has the potential for a role of that importance. Totally not worth the $5. If you want a 600 issue worth the $5, pick-up Thor #600.
Batman: Streets Of Gotham #1 - This is going to be one of the Bat-Books that I'm on the fence about. It's only the first issue, so I'll give it time to grow before I make a final decision, but so far I'm not entirely impressed. The art was gorgeous, but too many speech bubbles and text boxes in the way for me to enjoy it for that alone. I'm still sticking with Batman And Robin by Morrison & Quitely for all my Batman needs.
Invincible Iron Man #14 - It's been sort of slow these past few issues in my opinion, but seeing Tony flying around in a Crimson Dynamo outfit is pretty cool. But what's with Madame Masque just happening to be nearby with a sniper rifle in the middle of goddamn Russia?!? I'll admit, the ending hooked me, and I can't wait to see what happens next issue.
Captain Britain & MI:13 #14 - Very cool way to bring a villain back who was introduced earlier in the series. And to think Dracula almost bought it! It's going to be very sad to see such a fantastic series such as this come to an end soon, but at least it's been a solid run from start to finish. And how about that eerie cover? Completely badass!
Action Comics Annual #12 - Again, don't care about Nightwing or Flamebird, let alone their origins.
Invincible #63 - Pick of the Week, hands-down. So much win in this issue, that the parody statement Kirkman released earlier in the week totally lives up to the hype better than Cap 600 did. You have a vicious battle between Conquest and Invincible, with Omni-Boy and Atom Eve not helping the situation by joining the fray. The death in this issue is so powerful, that it could be equivalent to the modern day death of Gwen Stacy. Spectacular issue, and bravo to Kirkman and Ottley for keeping it so action-packed and original.
Supergirl #42 - If you just killed Lois Lane's sister, why would you tell her? You do realize she is married to the strongest hero on the planet, right? Mediocre issue at best.
Mighty Avengers #26 - Of all the Avengers titles, this one is not only my least favorite, but in my opinion not even needed. I didn't like the series when Bendis & Cho launched it, only picked it up during Secret Invasion for the crossover mediocre backstories, and with this new team, it feels like they're trying too hard to make their imprint in continuity. Thank goodness the other books are ignoring this team, because they aren't wanted or needed at all.
Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #4 - I've been loving what Jonathan Hickman has been doing with this title. I love it so much, that I simply can't wait for Millar & Hitch to be done with their mundane arcs so Hickman can take over. He obviously knows the characters and is able to make it both fun and brainy at the same time. It'll be interesting to see the Fantastic Four versus Norman Osborn next issue.
Punisher #6 - While it wasn't balls-to-the-wall action like it's been for the past couple of issues, it was a great set-up issue introducing all the re-animated villains who are suppose to take Frank down. Sadly, I'm pretty sure that next issue will reveal that they're all going to die again, only more painfully this time.
G.I. Joe: Cobra #4 - This felt like G.I. Joe meets As The World Turns; combat soap opera with exciting twists such as twin brothers, and the enemy knows who Chuckles is! I'm glad to hear more Cobra oriented titles and one-shots are going to be happening in the near future, because it's so much fun to root for the bad guys.
Cable #15 - Crazy stuff happening in this issue as the Messiah War almost comes to a conclusion. You got Stryfe, Deadpool, Cable, and Logan all battling to make sure Hope stays alive. Add the gorgeous art to this exciting story, and you have yourself one good read.
Destroyer #3 - Sad to see this as just a mini-series, and not an on-going, becuase Kirkman totally brings it in this issue. I have to say, I don't recall the last time I saw a guy covered in nothing but blood kicking so much ass. An old guy, no less! The bad guys sure do get a gruesome beat-down in this issue, so gruesome that be sure there are no small children in the room when you read it, because they might faint from all the blood on each page. Fun, bloody, totally fit for MAX.
Dark Reign: Hawkeye #3 - This is just a silly mini-series because Bullseye can't keep the Hawkeye act going forever. And to be actually going crazy, or some freak-cult dressing up as him? I'm confused, not entertained, and frankly don't care at this point.
Power Girl #2 - I'll admit, I was digging the Ultra Humanite origin story. But that's it.
Ex Machina #43 - Holy crap! I totally forgot about the earlier arc about aleternate dimensions! Glad to see Pherson back, and holy crap what a fucked-up dream. Beautiful art as always from Harris, and it's sad to think BKV won't have any sort of on-going series after this.
Jack Of Fables #35 - Note to self; keep away from any meancing-looking girls with blonde locks. Bigby is a total killer no matter what form he's in! And poor Sam; I hope Bigby & Co. arrive just in time to rescue him in the conclusion. Great issue, can't wait for the finale!
Outsiders #19 - Meh.
Superman / Batman #61 - While I enjoyed the last issue with all the wonderful character hybrids, I guess I felt like they might have gone too far with this issue. Don't get me wrong I had a real fun time reading this, but I'm glad that it was only lasting two issues, and all a dream. Who knows? Maybe the characters will get a huge fan following and launch their own Elseworlds title.
Red Mass For Mars #3 - Ten months late, and it's finally here! I would be pissed off, but since the art is so fucking gorgeous and it's Hickman once again writing a kick-ass story, I'll gladly turn a blind eye on the whole lateness thing. Great origin story of Mars, and quite the fucked-up childbirth. So cool to see him take on an army all by himself and remain the champion. One issue left, and I'll happily wait ten more months.
Green Arrow / Black Canary #41 - Not digging the chick with a crush on Ollie, suddenly becoming an expert shooter overnight. The no-sound pages worked well last issue because there were no text or speech bubbles at all. This issue? Too many text blocks. Lovely art (as usual) by Norton, but that's the only highlight.
The Boys: Herogasm #2 - While I can appreciate what Ennis is doing in this mini-series, this issue is just beyond ridiculous! I can't wait until some religious-whacko picks this issue up at random, and calls together the Right-wing nutjobs to burn comics again like they did in the 40's and 50's. Beyond explicit, and I'm loving every minute of it!
Final Crisis Aftermath: Dance #2 - This book continues to be fun, and my love of the Super Young Team grows more every issue. I would totally want an anime movie of them. Hear that Bruce Timm & Co.?
Dark Reign: Mister Negative #1 - I found myself on the fence with this issue. While it was an entertaining read, I don't like how Spider-Man approaches him at the end so carelessly and get infected. He has Spidey Sense for a reason.
Phonogram: The Singles Club #3 - Love the art, but again I'm not so much a fan of the story. I think I need to go back and read the first volume again in one sitting, and then the same with this second volume. Hopefully then I can come to love it like everyone else does.
Hellblazer #256 - Who knew the bad boys used magical roofies too?
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz #7 - There's one reason why I love this series so much: Skottie Young.
Wolverine Origins #37 - Ugh. I loathe this book. How can Way be so marvelous on one title (Deadpool), and totally lose me on another?
Tiny Titans #17 - Yeah, I love this book, what about it? You wanna make something of it, punk?!
Groom Lake #3 - Aliens with fucking gorgeous Ben Templesmith art. What more do you need?
Air #10 - I enjoyed the change of pace from the story around Blythe, and going back in time to see that the device has been around for quite a long time. Beuatiful artwork, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Project Superpowers Vol 2 #0 - The first volume lost me before it was even halfway through, and this one isn't starting out any better. I'm sure it's wonderful in a collection, but I can't remember half the story from month to month. Damn those Alex Ross covers for sucking me in!
Tales From Wonderland: Chesire Cat One-Shot - I'm getting into the Wonderland series for an upcoming spotlight on the Zenescope company, and all I can say at this point is goddamn! If you like naked women and gore, these are the stories for you.
Aaaaand I'm spent. What did YOU get this week and like / not like??
