There's a new issue of my ongoing, weird horror comic Dead Man Holiday out, and I wanted to give all the members of the ISaRmy (?) a chance to win one.

But whether or not you win (or even enter) this contest, you should totally go to DeadManHoliday.com and read the issue for free! It's a FREE PDF download. The pages look good on the screen, and the art, action and monsters are all bumped up from last issue. I'm pretty happy about the issue, and I think you guys'll enjoy it. Here's the cover and a couple of preview pages before I get to the contest:

So, this time around I thought it would be fun do do this like trivia night at the bar. I'm going to ask a few questions about comics that Dead Man Holiday is similar to. You guys should have no problem.
Everybody can answer one question, so there will be three winners. Don't post more than one answer! Post all answers in this thread.

1) Dead Man Holiday is science-fiction, like RASL. What was RASL’s job before he was an art thief?

2) Dead Man Holiday is post-apocalyptic (a little), like Therefore Repent! (totally is). In TR, what magical act can Raven perform?

3) Dead Man Holiday is a surreal action comic, like Hard Boiled. Who watches Nixon and his wife get it on?

Can previous contest winners enter?
Those pages look awesome by the way.

Thanks Neil! I'm pretty happy with the issue and am excited to get it into people's hands.

I think everyone else has had good enough of a head start. Go for it, man.

Comic pages look fantastic!

Dudes, Mr. Colin P.'s work is dang awesome and gets my full endorsement. So you'd be a fool not to answer his questions and let him send you free stuff.

Thanks Z Bill!

I mean, I've got a midget in a Hawaiian shirt sharing a Raiden hat with another midget dressed like a priest and spouting nonsense up there. If people aren't going to jump all over that (for FREE), then I've got nothing for these weirdos.

I think RASL was a scientist, if I remember correct.

I also think everyone should read the followup to Therefore Repent.

Time Out!

This book is off the hook!

This easily is one of my favorite series now, the amount the art evolved from last issue to this issue is amazing. The imagery is so weird, and I can only imagine where the story is going. This is a series to start reading. I'm not gonna participate in any more of your contests, I gotta drop some cash for these from now on. Way to go, dude.

Wow, man. Thanks for all the praise- I'm speechless! That's going to keep me smiling at the drawing board all night. Thanks thanks thanks!

You hear that people!?! Not only is this comic free, but it's good! Let's drop the contest- the next person to post anything in this thread will get BOTH issues of Dead Man Holiday shipped to them for free! Continental US, please... sorry, I'm poor.

And again, even if you don't want to enter the contest you can download Dead Man Holiday for FREE!

Awesome Chris! Thanks for hollerin'. I got your address and will put that in the mail soon. Incidentally, I've had your radio interview on my desktop for forever, and have been waiting for a good inking day to listen to it. Hope you enjoy!

Cool! I wondered if anyone had grabbed that mp3. Hopefully there's nothing too stupid in there. In the middle, the interviewer asked me a couple of general comics questions about the industry, mentioning manga and anthropomorphic comics and things like that which I really know nothing about, so there may be some ignorant stammering that you'll have to ignore.

Mr Colin P!

Way to go bro, this looks twisted and odd in a great Rick Veitch way!

And, I'm listening to Chris throw down his JACK on that above Mp3. sweet.

Chris,

I grabbed your Mp3, and also have not listened to it yet. Maybe I can convince my girlfriend to listen to them while we bind books for Stumptown tonight.

Thanks for the issues, Colin!

I just read #-3 (the first one), and I really enjoyed it.

In some ways I was slightly surprised how much I enjoyed it, since the darker genres really aren't my thing, but in your introduction you described the work perfectly: a personal approach to genre. The storytelling is incredibly quirky and the voice is very much that of a unique sensibility. Great work!

So I've read both issues of Dead Man Holiday and it definitely keeps you guessing! The writing is really pretty fascinating. If you're into sci-fi and such where you have to kind of piece together what's going on and what sort of world you're in, this is for YOU!

I loved how in the first issue the mysterious skeleton-thing looks so moth-like in the shadows, so I did a quick fan pic applying that moth idea a bit more directly:

Colin, the original is in an envelope and on the way to the post office as a "Thank You" for all the wacked-out weirdness.

Nice, Chris!

I've been meaning to draw something for Colin too.

Guh-Whaaa! Oh man! I am totally, totally floored. That drawing is awesome! You really took my idea to your own, totally new place and I love where you ended up. Thanks so much, what an amazing treat. It will be framed. He almost kind of looks like an owl, all puffy like that. Very interesting.

BLOGGED

It's great for me to see stuff like this because, as you said, I leave the plot pretty vague so that people can bring their own imaginations to the table. But people's interpretations can go beyond their own experience with the book and find it's way into the book itself- when I get feedback like reviews, my friends telling me what they think happened, or even other people's visual interpretations like this one, some of that stuff finds it's way into the book when I'm writing the next issue.

This is all a fancy way of saying that I steal plot points from reviews.
