You know, I always thought Bluejay was supposed to be a male equivalent of Wasp, (gets small/has wings).
Regarding the fictional places in the DC Earth, there was a comment in JLA/Avengers that the Marvel Earth was slightly smaller than DCs', since there was no Gotham, Metropolis, Qurac, Bialya etc, although they do have the Savage Land don't they?

Yea - I think we made the comment that DC has more fictional US cities but Marvel had more fictional international cities. That's not backed up by anything though. lol.
Interestingly enough, you could almost see the Avengers Initiative - putting heroes in all 50 states - as something DC has been doing for a long time. All their heroes/teams "staked out" their claims to cities - Superman/Metropolis, Batman/Gotham, Wonder Woman Washington DC and Boston (and later Gateway), Starman in Opal City, the New Teen Titans in NY, Blue Beetle in Chicago, the Question in Hub City, Will Payton in Arizona (?), Green Arrow in Star City, Green Lantern in Coast City, Flash in Central/Keystone, Atom in Ivy Town, etc etc etc.
The Blue Jay works because of the name (Blue Jay = Yellow Jacket) and there is a Wasp counterpart that shows up later (she's called T.A.)
