During a recent conversation with another comic geek, they remarked how much they disliked Yu's art on Secret Invasion and how it was a real detriment to their enjoyment of the event. They went further and said that they suspected most people were buying Secret Invasion IN SPITE of Yu's art. I was shocked by this as I personally think his stuff has gotten fantastic and, for me, his art is the most enjoyable and distinctive component of the event so far; trumping the writing certainly.

I'm just trying to get a sense of where everyone sits with Yu's art. Love it? Hate it? Somewhere in between?

He's good. Personally I don't think a "superhero" book is right for him. He's got "grim and gritty" down pat. I'd much rather see him on a darker, street-level book.

I've enjoyed his SI work so far, and it appears he can hit a deadline reasonably well.

I think he is very good. I'm not going to buy a book just because he is on the art but if it is a book I already buy then I'm happy to look at the pretty pictures!!

He's got talent, but his style isn't my cup of tea.

He was getting very loose at one point in New Avengers (pre SI, post CW) and I was starting to dislike it (to "sloppy" for superhero comic books
But he has been far more clean and tight during the Secret Invasion run, so good for him.... and I like it.

I have been a fan of Yu since his Wolverine run in the late 90s. His evolution into the big "sketchy" style in New Avengers is controversial among fans. I think it's terrific. I find his work on Secret Invasion very disappointing. Personally, I believe the inking is overpowering and ruining his artwork It barely looks like Yu's style. He inked his own stuff on New Avengers and it looked great. He also may have trouble with the 8 million characters in a book thing. We can't all be George Perez! I hope he returns to inking his own pencils on his next project!

Neither a draw or turn off (which puts him where 95% of artists fare or me).

I would neither be stoked nor particularly upset if he took over my favorite title (outside of the general displeasure of losing whoever it was that made my favorite title what it was - and that would apply to anyone).

He's a mixed bag for me. Sometimes he's fine, but sometimes I sort of dislike his work. I think his older stuff was more to my liking... the New Avengers stuff was below my threshold. Secret Invasion has been fine. I'm not in love with it, but not hating it either.

So his name will neither attract me nor detract me from buying a book.

He's a beast to me. He's THE only reason I'm still reading this book. Hell he was the main reason I started this event because after WWH I was done with big Marvel events. He also got me to buy New Avengers again.

Absolutely love his art.

His 'High Roads' book was my first introduction to his work. Very solid.

I'm not loving the art on Secret Invasion, but I'm not hating it either. Yu has an interesting style - the texture of his work gives it this kind of tension and excitement that I don't see in more traditional artists' work, but other things bother me. Faces spring to mind - I feel like most of the men look alike, and sometimes even the women have that massive square jaw look. There have also been times where the storytelling wasn't clear for me. I had to look at that cliffhanger reveal of Thor and Captain America several time to figure out what the hell was going on. Even though confusion like that has only happaned 2-3 times while reading the series, that's still 2-3 times more than I usually experience when reading something.

He's middle of the road (because I have only saw him work on one DC project), not someone I avoid nor someone that makes me want to buy a comic.

I'm not Yu fan but I am impressed by his artwork.  However not enough to buy Secret Invasion, New Avengers etc.  The only thing of his that I saw of his was Superman Birthright & I have to say it was top notch. But the story I HATED from Mark Waid.  I sold all the issues on ebay & never looked back at Superman Birthright. A book that I gave the "Zero Hour" treatment and retconned out of my own personal comics continunity. Because I still value John Bryne's Man of Steel miniseries as Superman's origin until Geoff Johns gave him new powers w/ Up Up & Away story arc following Infinite Crisis for Superman.

I love almost everything he does...especially when they credit him with his middle initial...something about getting a book that says F. Yu on it that makes me smile.

I think he's very good and I've enjoyed the books he's done in recent years. But he's not among the best in the business, at least for me.

He's not the worst, he's not the best. I haven't been overly impressed with the artwork in SI but they certainly could have picked a worse artist for it.

There too, I don't buy comics for the artist much, if ever. As long as Wolverine looks like Wolverine and I don't need another character to go "Wolverine! Over here!" to get me to realize that, then the artist is doing their job for the most part.

His layouts are usually excellent --- I just think he needs stronger inkers.... if they even use an inker these days

I went with "He's very good, having him on a book is a plus". I don't think he's one of the best yet, and I think his style is such that he might not ever be considered one across the board, but he is super talented and I'm always pleased to see his art. I think his SI stuff is the best he's ever done, and he should let others ink his work for him. His regular Avengers stuff is still really good, but it can get a little too busy for my tastes.

I really dislike his work. I hate it on New Avengers and he is one of the big reasons I skipped SI altogether. I am honestly not sure how they put such a high profile event in his hands. Well I could since I assumed he would be on time, but now that he's late it makes the decision even more baffling. If he was on a lower profile or a street level book, but giving him the assignments he is being given is really making me wonder what Marvel is thinking.
