In addition to Michael's own site, he also helped design some of the banners used on the Strangers in Paradise Fans Forum. His wife, who posts under the guise 'Anzeliek' on the SiP Fans Forum, frequently posts artwork by Michael specifically made for her or for the forum. I realize this is a shameless plug, but much of her husband's work is posted in sub-forums only accessible to registered SiP Fans members, so if anyone is interested in seeing more of Michael's work, feel free to join.
I just finished listening to the episode. My initial reaction was one of surprise. I wasn't expecting a detailed account of the harsh realities faced by artists trying get a break in the industry. I guess I was taken aback because I'm so used to the positivity Kathy and Michael exude on the SiP Fans Forum. I tend to take my accessibility to Michael's artwork for granted. I'm so used to seeing his personalized avatars, e-cards, and other artwork that his wife Anzeliek posts on the forum, that I forget what I'm actually looking at is his livelihood. I hope this episode results in additional exposure to his work for he certainly deserves an audience.

I also liked hearing that creators are generally allowed four to six months for a 40+ page album! That sounds great to me! The American monthly schedule is a killer - the book i'm working on right now actually has a bi-monthly schedule, which seems absolutely luxurious to me in comparison to my last monthly book, so doubling or tripling that is hard to imagine! I guess the only danger of such an expanded schedule would be getting too comfortable and ending up in crunch time anyway as the deadline nears.
So, Bryan, I think we should organize some sort of CGS contingent to go to the Angouleme convention (am I spelling that right?) in the next couple of years. I'd be all for that - it'd be great to see it and make contact with some of those European publishers!

I'm hoping to make Angouleme in 2010. That gives me a year to save up and get prepared.
It just sounds way too cool to not see it at least once in my life.

Great, I'll have to do a little research and see if I could afford it that year. I guess it all depends on how well 2009 goes for me! That is a good season for airfares to France, I imagine.

Largo Winch looks awesome, cinebook has some excellent properties in their publishing library that I'll be slowly checking out. Just waiting for payday and hopefully I can get it before the next episode. 3 weeks you say, there's time.
Nikopol was published in English by Humanoids, there were two editions;
The softcover was published under the DC/Humanoids deal and is 176 pages for $14.99. It the standard trade size, well height wise you get an extra 3/4 inch in the width of those trades.
The hardcover edition is scarce, it's also 176 pages but is the large oversized Humanoids format and retailed for $39.99.
I have the softcover and am furiously searching for the Hardcover. Bilal's art needs to be enjoyed in the oversized format.

Excellent! I'm glad you like it. I was hoping that we would get a few listeners from France and Belgium.

First time poster, I have been listening to this podcast for about a year now. And find this new bd podcast pretty cool. I myself don't read a lot of bd more American comics and manga. and this podcast has made
me go and buy a few. so thanx for that.
I have a question/ proposition for Brian. Have you read Storm by Maartin Lodewijk and Don Lawrence yet, cause that is my fav bd and I would like to hear your tought on it in your podcast.
I know they have translated at least a couple of the to english. Now my prop. is that if you raed a few and like it but can't find more in english I will buy a few in Dutch translate them on a separate paper and send
them to you free of charge.
What do you think?

I think this sounds like a great proposition.
I'll check it out and see if I can get my hands on them.
Thanks!
