Episode 526 Talkback: Politics In Comics a Spotlight on Prez: First Teen President

I'm pretty sure that $1800 Action Comics (that Pants brought up) was bought by Mitchell Mehdy, and he got a bit ridiculed for it (he was a teenager at the time). I wonder what grade it was in. Some 10 years later, chuck Rozanski would sell the Edgar Church copy for $25,000 (also rather large and some thought absurd news). Now that book is rumored to have turned down offers in excess of a million dollars - not a bad potential return.
Once again thanks for the episode, but still listening to it now - Stump the Rios is on!

For a real theme night, read the series and then go watch the movie "Wild in the Streets." Lots of good satire in both about people's fears over the lowering of the voting age to 18.

This store is really amazing. I trekked on over there about three years ago when I was jonesing hard for Star Wars Miniatures pieces. I was really impressed with the staff's helpfulness and knowledge. At the time I was running a gaming club through school and they cut me a nice discount on gaming stuff like dice for the kids. Since it is such a hike to drive there, they said to use their web site for any orders. I would only imagine that it would extend to anyone ordering from across state lines as well.
Check their site out here and give them a shout: http://www.sixfeetundergames.com/

Oh, as for the secret service agents and security and all that: nah, those hi-profile guys like presidents, vice-presidents, senators, etc. were still only LOOSELY protected even at that time. George Wallace had just gotten shot in '72, and Squeaky Fromm also managed to get a shot off on Pres. Ford while shaking his hand in 1975. I mean, c'mon, later Reagan and the Pope still even managed to get shot or shot at! I think in that era, politicians still thought they were relatively safe walking around unprotected among the general populace.

I think we were talking about the eligibility to become President at 18, not to vote. But I'd have to listen to it again.

Their latest episode is dated today Oct.14 and the hosts, Adriana and Kristen, dissect the Legion and it's many facets. I haven't listened yet but I've since subscribed on iTunes. So - not to step on the Substitute Podcasters toes - there is another Legion podcast out there.

Yeah, I pointed this same podcast out on some other board around here, and the hosts are funny, but I don't get the sense that they really enjoy the comics. They say they are modeling themselves after "Tom vs. the JLA" (now, of course, vs. the Flash), but you don't sense the love beneath the mockery the way you do with Tom Katers. The man is inimitable, I am thinking...
Anyway, I cannot wait to listen to the Substitute Podcasters! Long live the Legion! :-)

Yet another reason that we're Substitutes
Love for the Legion is strong. It's great that someone else is in on it too. I'm certain that we're different enough that it's well worth listening to both...
but us first...
