http://www.collectedcomicslibrary.com/

On this week’s show, I celebrate all things Hulk. I give a rundown of some of the essential collected editions you should read (or better yet - own). I even talk about the early days of Kirby and Lee, through the Peter David run and right up to Planet Hulk and WWH.

I also catch up on all the news of the past two weeks and if you are going to be at Wizard World Chicago be sure to stop be and see the podcasting panel, which I will be a part of.

Lastly, I rundown The New Releases of the Week and a few from last week, too.

Thanks for spotlighting the Hulk comics. The 80s cartoon on NBC was the best.

Matt,

I figured that you would chime to whether or not you agree with me that Superman (and/or Hulk) would be hard to write for.

Superman is hard but has great writers at various times since 1986 (modern era for comics), John Bryne writing & art Man of Steel trades all 6 of them (hopefully more to come) + Superman/Batman Generations I & II have a special place on my bookshelf similar to the Peter David visionaries Hulk only that Peter David wrote Hulk alot longer than Byrne did, I liked the Death/Return/Aftermath of Superman from various writers/artists was a shocking change for over a year, Loeb run + Superman/Batman run + Smallville on tv, Superman writers just prior to Infinite Crisis -- Greg Rucka on Adventures of Superman, Gail Simone on Action & Mark Verheinden on Superman & Geoff Johns solo & HOPEFULLY Johns/Robinson duo only time will tell on that though. But it had a share of clunkers, Superman Man of Energy + Red & Blue Supermen storylines & the Absolute worst Superman ever written in my opinon a miniseries called Superman Birthright (retelling of Superman origin that I HATED sold it 3 years ago. I now realize Waid is a great Flash writer his first run (not his recent one on Flash), Kingdom Come, Brave & Bold are great but I would slap his hand so fast if he came towards writing Superman again & Superman For Tomorrow was very different coming from Brian Azzarello too. So writing for the Man of Steel is a great challenge but some writers can overcome the writer's Kryptonite to tell a amazing story for readers to enjoy. So as a Superman fan the movies writing wise goes, Superman I & II both A+ w/ extra credit given are the greatest & Superman Returns A- closest to I & II possible but falls just a bit short in my opinon, Superman III is just ok C-, & avoid Superman IV Quest for Peace at all costs a F for failure (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ). In closing, many writers (comics/movies/tv) try to write Superman but only a handful succeed at the task so that is a lasting testament of their skill as writers that make them "The Great Ones".
