It's time again for the Hi-Fi Colorists to be challenged!! This time we're privileged to have a beautiful convention sketch of Freefall (Roxy) from Gen13 by none other than Terry Moore. I'm not going to put many guidelines on this one (as I've done in the past) simply because this is a quick convention sketch, so it may be a bit more difficult to color than some of the previous challenges. Just clean it up as you see fit, color it appropriately and post it here for us all to enjoy! Simply click on the image above to download the high res file.

Again, there is no time limit on these challenges. If you are still working on a previous challenge...don't worry about it. If you've come across this thread months from now you're stull welcome to participate. These challenges are just here for us to be able to improve our skills at coloring by utilizing the Hi-Fi Color For Comics book. If for any reason the link to the artwork does not work, PM me and I'll help you out.

I need to put out a major thank you to Fade-to-Black (from these forums) for getting us permission for and providing us with this piece. It's fantastic that not only do we have access to such great artwork but also that there are people that are willing to go out of their way to help us put these together. Thanks so much!!! I owe you one.

Also, I need let you know that we have obtained permission from Terry Moore to use the image only within the confines of this forum. Please do not use it in other venues. It is strictly to be used for us here in this thread to color and repost here for review. If you have any questions about that, please feel free to PM me.

Have fun!! thumbsup_anim.gif

Ooooh, I can't wait to see what everyone does with this one. A chance to color some non-SiP Terry Moore art is a rare opportunity. Step right up folks!

Here is my attempt, I decided to defy all logic and begin with challenge #3 and go back to the other 2 later. So this is my first attempt at one of the challenges here. I think the challenges are a great idea and I plan to participate in them all.

Anyhoo, I was not familiar with this character at all, I don't know what Gen 13 is, but I did a quick search for the character and found some pictures of her. Hopefully I got her hair and such sort of similar to what she looks like. I went with a very minimal pallette on this one, mostly purple, hopefully it worked. She reminds me of Tonks, from harry potter, he he

Oh, also, I still havn't fixed my monitor, so hopefully the colors are not off to badly on this one. I'm going to get my much more computer savvy brother to help me calibrate my monitor this weekend so that won't be an issue for much longer.

I also have no idea about this character or know what Gen 13 is, so not much I can offer there. However I really like how you made the rim lights and cuts choppy to match the style of the art. I saw your Dr Who and Martha earlier too and just loved it!

Thanks a lot Sapphire, I tried to do the coloring on this pic rather quickly so that it would match the sketchiness of the picture. I think I spent to much time on a few bits, but I still like the end result. So anyway that is why I did the choppy cuts I used the poly lasso to make them not so smooth. Anyway, glad you like it. Oh, and the Dr Who pic was so much fun to color! I love that show, especially the newest version with David Tennant as the Dr. I wish I could find more Doctor Who art to color, I will have to go searching for some more I think smile.gif

I have to admit, I'm a total Tennant fan! I like him way more then Ecclestien who to me just came off as an ass all the time. I can't wait for season four to come out on BBCA. I'm sad to see Martha go though; I really liked her.

I love it!
I've owned the original sketch now for nearly 11 years, and I've always wondered what it would look like in color. Thanks for being the first to satisfy my curiosity.

When I obtained permission to use this image from Terry, he grabbed his pencil and made a few edits, (which admittedly didn't scan very well). Most of the edits he did were ones you've already done (namely connecting breaks in the line work). However one edit he made was the addition of toenails (again difficult to see in the scan). A teenage girl is bound to have painted nails.

That really is a good job you did Lisa. I can't wait until I have time to get to this.

Thanks a lot Fade-2-Black, I'm glad you like it! Thanks for getting permission for us to color it, I had a lot of fun doing it. I can't wait to see what everyone else does with it. I wish I had seen the toenails though, I think it would look great with her nails painted.

Hello Everyone,

I was finally able to put some time in on this one and it took some work on my part; see what happens when you are a noob. It takes you forever! Okay, not forever but about 12 to 14 hours. Thanks for putting these challenges up guys. I appreciate being about to work on some real art. smile.gif

I started working on this piece last night. While I working on the flats, I noticed a detail that currently none of the submitted pieces have included. Perhaps it's less of a detail as much as it is an interpretation, but ever since I've owned this sketch, I've always thought the areas below the knees were holes in Roxy's jeans.

I hope this isn't considered Necro-posting(even if it's not that old..) but I just found this forum earlier and wanted to do something easy to begin with. For the record the Background photo is my own.

Excellent! Welcome. I hope you've got time to be involved with more of our challenges.

Nice work!

I spoke with Terry at Comic-Con and he is very jazzed by all the fans coloring his art. Everyone at HueDoo are now officially annointed muses for Terry Moore... what are you waiting for, get back to coloring quick before he loses his mojo laughingsmiley.gif
