Hey All,

Just got back from the Stumptown con here in Portland. It was my first time attending the show. It is a two day even but all I needed was a few hours. This is an interesting show because there aren't more then 2-3 vendors. The show was designed to showcase creators, mostly indy. I was going to pass on the show altogether but I wanted to see the main attraction, Brian Michael Bendis and try and get a piece from Steve Lieber. I've been on his sketch twice 3 times now over the last few years but he never gets around to it. Today, I was #1 on the list!

After picking up my book and telling him it was well worth the wait, he suggested I hit up Ron Chan, whom I've never heard of. Glad I did!

Meeting Bendis again was cool, he is always great with the fans and will sign 1 book or a 100 books and he does it with a smile. We BS'ed for a few mins and then headed over to his panel. He talked a lot about his creative process, told some funny stories, one included an interview attempt he tried to get with Steve Ditko. Stated that he had lunch last week with David Fincher who will be directing Torso. Said he will be writing Powers the movie. He has a crime drama pilot for HBO, a bermuda triangle type pilot for Fox and one other show that I can't remember. Nice guy.

As far as the rest of the show goes, it was quite weird. Think about Artist Alley at every con you've every been too and think about all the indy creators pressing their book/product on you. Now times it by 10! This show is for the indy creator and I'm not into lined notebook paper, folded over, stapled and sold for 5-10 bucks!

One big disappoint was Tara McPherson. After hearing her interview this week I was excited to meet her and say hi. But what a bitch. I'll leave it at that.

Dark Horse was giving away a few bags of free stuff. After getting home I found Scotty Pilgrim vol 1 which I've heard everyone here talk about, so I'll be getting around to that later. And as some of you know, my biggest/best purchase of the con was actually via my iPhone when I sent payment to Bob Layton for a Punisher piece he did in NYCC and was selling via CAF.

Anyways, it was a nice warm up before Seattle in two weeks.

I only listened to half of the CGS Stumptown episode b/c that first interview was so boring. She sounded like she didn't even care. Not only that, but I forgot who she was, and she nor the CGS guys mentioned what covers for Vertigo she had done. I was at the college dining hall eating, and couldn't look up her work right then and there, it would've been nice to hear what book she did covers for. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with her Frank.

HA! She was no different in person! Then she asked me if I was going to buy something from her, quite bluntly, when I said no, she started texting on her phone.

Sorry to disturb you ma'am!!
