I just heard on the news my LCS had a robbery and a shooting tonight. I don't know who was shot yet but they took him to the hospital. I'm praying they are OK! Lots of robberies lately here in Michigan but hearing it was the comic shop I frequent is really weird and disturbing.

UPDATE: Owner Dave Pirkola in stable but critical condition. If you wish to donate money to his hospital/health, please follow the link below, as Dave has no health insurance! Thank you!

NEW UPDATE: According to ifanboy:
06/01 UPDATE
Big thanks to everyone who has donated, we're well above $7,500 raised! For an update on Dave's condition, he is out of the ICU, but still recovering and being cared for. For regular updates, the folks who are running Apparitions in his absence have set up a blog - http://davidpirkola.blogspot.com/ - So be sure to check there for regular updates. We've been working on putting together an auction of some great stuff - and the auction should launch in mid June, details will be coming soon.

Sorry to hear that Blackscarf; hopefully everything is OK and everyone at the store is unharmed.

Here's the link. http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=8...mp;nav=menu44_2

They don't know a whole lot at this time and don't know whether it was someone who worked there or a customer that was shot.

I couldn't get to my LCS a couple months back because the Wendy's across the street had a murder/suicide (I wanted to say Murder/Death/Kill)...

Blackscarf that is also near me. I was very surprised to hear the newslady say "A comic BOOK store has been robbed today..."

First, she had no idea what a comic book store was, and second, holy shit, they robbed the comic book store!

I'm a DCBS customer but I still frequent the LCSs around.

I kind of find the story ironic, because there were no superheros around to foil the robbery.

No update yet on how the person is that got shot (or even if it was the owner or an employee or a customer). I'll let you know when I do.

Wow, I shopped at the store when it first opened and usually stop there when visiting family in Byron Center. I hope the guys who work there are o.k.

UPDATE: It sounds like it was one of the guys who worked there that was shot: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/local/grmetro_a...x?storyid=91253

I hope that as these things go, it isn't that serious but none of the news I can find are saying that much.

Yeah, they are being tight-lipped so far on his condition. Hopefully he'll be OK. Thanks for the link.

Wow, how horrible. Hope he is ok! Please keep us posted, I'd be happy to contribute a donation of money or (if it's the store owner) product for the shop to help out.

Daaaaaaaamn.

I've heard of comics shops being broken into in the middle of the night and being burglarized of their gold & silver keys. But this is the first I've heard of an armed robbery.

Hope the guy is ok.

I work about a mile from that store. Pretty scary. Lots of weird stuff has been happening in this town of late.

Jeez Thats horrible!. I hope something like that never happens to me. Well we don't have guns in Bermuda , but any sort of armed robbery like that.
I mean its terrible to hear of any business getting robbed but a comic shop, man it feels like personal to me! I sorta of consider ANY comic shop to be a kinda safe haven for US! I don't think I have ever gone into ANY comic shop and not met great people or felt welcome to be there.

Just sucks.

I went looking on the comics retailers & professionals boards to see if there was already a pros & peers donation set up but they hadn't heard about it yet. Also contacted friends at Comics Reporter, Journalista, and Blog@Newsarama to see if anyone was setting something up (no sense confusing people w/ more than one donation drive), if I hear back anything I'll let you guys know.

In the meantime, that Bendis Board thread looks like the industry's spearhead on this.

I just got an email from another local retailer with a post-note about Dave...
