We are very pleased to announce the recipient of the CCS scholarship
raised from the proceeds of the Awesome anthology! We make a call
to the lucky student and surprise them with the great news and talk
about what they're up to! Plus a look at this year's Eisner Award
nominations! And with this weekend's NY Comic Con, a quick look
ahead to Stumptown and HeroesCon, and some new books in our mailbag!

I think special recognition replaces the Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition category. Though I don't really follow the eisners too much so I have no idea. Congrats to all the nominees on the forum!

As for a pick, Bookhunter should win. It's such a great book and I'm glad that I stumbled on it.

I was reading over my copy of Awesome the two days ago. It's just full of great stuff. I'm just in awe of it and the fact that it's going to a good cause is even better.

It's funny how many names I recognize out of it as compared to when I got it. I'm gettin educated on indie comics!

And the Eisner awards! Holy pantheon, Batman!

I am super humbled and honored! Thank you to Charlito, Mr. Phil, Evil Twin, and the ISR community! I really feel like my classmates deserve this award because I see how hard they work everyday and how much they love comics. I can only hope that I can live up to this award and keep making comics no matter what. I am so so so so so grateful.

I'd like to take the opportunity to share my classmates work with everyone here. I don't think everyone has a site but I will put up the links that I have.

Bryan Stone - Bryan does thoughtful and and fantastic adventure stories. And his wife Amanda-Ann often does amazing watercolors over his lines.

Dane Martin - Dane's comics can't be categorized. They are some of my most favorite comics in the world.

Denis St. John - Denis does stories about monsters and ladies! Lot's of ladies!

Morgan Pielli - Morgan is working on a really cool sci-fi epic that is very character driven.

JP Coovert - JP's style is simple and perfect for his introspective stories. He also runs One Percent Press producing quality comics, zines, and music.

Penina Gal - Penina is working on a really cool kids fantasy comic that will be freaking FULLY PAINTED!

Joe Lambert - Joe Lambert draws like no one else. Watch for him in next year's BEST AMERICAN COMICS!

Sean Ford - Sean's ONLY SKIN is an intriguing mystery set in a small town. It does not Disappoint.

Alex Kim - Alex is the most consistent and dedicated artist I know. Oh and he can screenprint like a motherfucker!

Chris Warren - Chris is our local web-comics expert who is working on a very cool super-hero book who's main character is modeled after yours truly!

Jeff Lok - Jeff has a livejournal but for some reason he erased all the posts. i am linking to the I know Joe Kimpel store where you can buy his comics and others from CCS. Jeff is working on a a book that i am dying to read in it's entirety. It's called Pockmarked Apocalypse and takes...umm...a story of twisting roads, abandoned gas stations, and dried-out draculas. Jeff is the bob dylan of comics. in my humble opinion.

Matt Young - Matt is working on a story of complicated office romance with a tinge of clever wit.

Blair Sterret - Blair is a distant relative to the great Cliff Sterrett of Polly and her Pals' fame. Blair is working on a deeply personal work about his life and his experience as a Mormon.

Please take the time to check out my friends work. They really deserve this much more than i do. they are such an inspiration to me and my comic books. They are irreplaceable.

Thanks again everyone! I can't say it enough

Big Congratulations, Mr. McBuck! I look forward to buying stuff from you for many years!

The only work of yours I know is from your piece in Awesome. I appreciate it more every time I read it.

Haw! Awesome news, Chuck! I'm listening to this episode right now, and came on here while they're talking about the Eisners (snooze...) to thank Charlito and Mr. Phil for the sweet mentions of HeroesCon and Indie Island, and I noticed you had won. I'm already getting my hankie out for the actual moment.

Oh! And I just (ahem!) realized that you'll be at HeroesCon as well--how exciting! And convenient for me: putting the ISR guys, the Awesome anthology, and the grant winner all at the same convention down here in the tree-lined American South. How could anyone NOT come?

I almost lost my shit when Stan Lee almost gave you guys a handjob.

Congratulations, Chuck! The only thing I know that you've done was in the AWESOME book, but it was really great. "THE LORD, BITCH!"

You got me all excited for the con again! That's OK, I'll transfer it to STUMPTOWN in just FIVE DAYS!!!!

Thanks again, everyone!!

And yes, HeroesCon is gonna be really cool. I know at least four of us CCSers are making the trek. It'll be our first time to the show(hopefully of many).

Everybody please stop by and say hi at this year's shows. I'll be at MoCCA at the Sundays table, HeroesCon, and SPX.

Oh, and for anyone going to Stumptown, PonyClub should have some copies of Snake Oil #1 for sale.
