A little while back Entertainment Weekly posted a "Guide To Surviving The Writer's Strike" in one of their columns. One of their suggestions was to tackle the AFI Top 100 films of all time. I looked at the list and realized, I really haven't seen many of these films. So, I've decided to put a big dent in that bastard by watching as many of these films as I can in the next year. I'll post the list below and strikethrough the films I've already seen, to illustrate just how few of these films I've seen:

1 Citizen Kane 1941
2 Casablanca 1942

That's around 20 movies I've seen on this list. That's pathetic. So I am taking on the challenge and I'm putting it out there for others in my position. Let's put a dent in this list!!!

I only just watched Easy Rider last night and I have Annie Hall and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid on deck.

Post your own list and take up the challenge now.

My roommate in college, who programmed the campus films, took this same challenge.

I advise you to jump right to 46 and 47. Maybe not in the same night though....

LOL! That wouldn't make for the happiest night but they are both good movies.

Personally, I suggest jumping straight to #23, followed by #38. In fact, anybody who hasn't seen "The Maltese Falcon" should see it. It's just too cool.

Wow! I'm impressed. I've only seen 53.5 (I only watched half of The Deer Hunter before becoming too bored to go on).

My Fair Lady is very good.

I've seen 53 of the movies on the list and out of all the movies I have not seen Schindler's List is the only one I really want to see. I just wish I had the time to search out some of these movies and watch them. I've been sitting on a copy of JUNO for a week now and barely had a chance to watch it last night.

I'm a big movies fan and been watching quite a while. Between theatre/home I watch between 80-120 movies a year, and I'm 45! lol Do the math! :^)

Too bored of Deer Hunter?? Oh my - you really need to revisit that! Sure, the first hour or so might be slower b/c it's pre-Viet Nam. But once they go overseas? The Russian Roulette scenes are among the most intense scenes I have EVER seen on a movie/TV screen. I guarantee you will NOT be bored! wow.

I may have seen My Fair Lady decades ago - but I was too fuzzy on it to count it. I actually taped The Apartment off of AMC a few years ago, but when I went to watch it recently the quality was so poor I had to quit 5 minutes in. I have 2 of those Chaplin movies on VHS as well - but who am I kidding? After switching to Hi Def last year, I just can't watch those old VHS tapes any more! lol

Seen 73, haven't seen 27. Out of the ones I've seen, I think my favourites are City Lights, Citizen Kane, The Godfather I & II, It Happened One Night, and The Searchers. I'll jump on the bandwagon, but it's going to take quite a few beers to get through some of them (curse you, West Side Story...).

I searched for that 10th Anniversary list. I could only find it in PDF format and it was a bitch to cut and paste. I wound up going with Wikipedia's list, which has some minor differences (i.e. No Fellowship of The Ring). If you can find a version of the current list to post, please do. We want to be as up to date as possible.

West Side Story isn't all bad, but I will say this. I'm glad I saw it when I was a kid. It may not translate as well in adulthood.

I'll post my list soon.

Just thought I'd throw out there that this is the list I use with my high school pop culture class as the basis for our film unit. We watch some classic foreign stuff as well to show how the influence works both ways.

I guarantee you will NOT be bored! wow.

I'll give it another shot. I was probably just tired when I watched it the first time but that pre-Vietnam stuff just seemed to go on forever.

After switching to Hi Def last year, I just can't watch those old VHS tapes any more! lol

Ha! I'm the same way.

BTW, Dr. Teeth, I share your pain regarding West Side Story. I've seen enough of it to wonder if I really want to see the rest.

How is Full Metal Jacket not on this list? That's one of the best films I've ever seen. L.A. Confidential is too. I think AFI needs a good slap in the head! wink.gif
