I just started watching Planetes over the weekend. LOVE IT, don't know why I never got around to watching it before.

I've watched random episodes of Geass, and I'm keeping up wit reviews from anime bloggers. I should be so into this! However, I'm satiated with Gurren Lagan. I don't like the art style, so that's what's kept me away.

I haven't seen Gurren yet. How is that show?

Yeah there are just those shows you've been meaning to watch but just never do. There's some random anime I have around here like that...

Gurren is really bonkers. It's that type of show like FLCL that's somewhat serious at one point, and totally cartoon slapstick the next. I mean, the first episode has a tornado of pig moles in it! I did get spoiled on it, and I can tell you that the show goes in places you wouldn't expect it to.

I missed the most recent episode sad.gif Yep, no Tivo. I just might have to rent the DVD.

Masaharu Morimoto has been announced as a guest at NYAF. Why, I cannot say.

(actually I can, but I won't.)

Speaking of Gurren, guess who got to try dubbing a couple of Yoko's lines? biggrin.gif

I've only seen the first episode of Gurren Lagann, and thought it was horrible. I've been told to give it three or four episodes before making up my mind for sure, though.

I say give it one episode. I never believe that you have to give a show some time. Maybe in live action shows because they have pilot episodes and change from there. If you're not into that tempo of show, then you're probably not going to like it going forwards.

Did you like FLCL? I think that's the best comparison, because there are thoughtful moments, and yet the show is to completely off the wall and doesn't have any boundaries. The only rule Gurren Lagan has is that sometimes people die.

Well, I don't necessarily agree with that, particularly with anime. I avoided Trigun for YEARS because the first couple episodes didn't really grab me -- big mistake. And to pick a classic example, Macross doesn't REALLY get started until episode 4.

I did enjoy FLCL - crazy anarchic style, contemporary setting, GREAT soundtrack. Gurren Lagann (the first ep, anyway) was to me just a catalog of bad anime cliches (and not in the funny/ironic Haruhi Suzumiya way, either).

Though I admit, if I don't like something after the first or second episode I never stick around unless someone (whose opinion I consider trustworthy) specifically tells me that I should.

Just to resurrect this thread from the dead... or into a new body, whatever...

Is it just me or has there been not a lot of anime of note coming out the last couple months?

Yeah, I fogot 'bout this thread.

Just like most companies, anime/manga companies have been downsizing. Titles are changing hands and whatnot. I'm watching a few things online, through crunchyroll and hulu. I hear that funimation is also streaming their titles on their site.

I've wanted to watch Baccano for so damn long. Other than that, I don't think I'm looking forward to anything else. I have to check my wish list of anime. It's getting longer all the time.

My anime to watch list has Skip Beat! in it. I love the manga and ever since I heard it would be an anime, I was hoping to watch it. biggrin.gif

Oh, Skip Beat? They advertise that like mad on crunchy roll. If you don't mind watching stuff online, you can catch it there.

I've been watching Naruto Shippuden, Shikabane Hime, Gintama, Linebarrels of Iron and Tower of Druaga 2nd season through crunchyroll and hulu.

I finally finished Mushi-shi. That was an anime I took real slow, because it was a slow paced show to begin with. It's sort of a show you watch if you want to calm down, feel serene.

I've just been catching up on old stuff, have no idea what's out there that's cool right now. Gonna pick up both Pluto and 20th Century Boys from Viz as soon as I think about it, though.
