Hello. I'm a new listener and am listening to a bunch of old episodes. I looked through the episode list and it doesn't look like you've done a Batman Spotlight yet, but if you have, I'm sorry.

You've talked about doing a Batman Spotlight and doing some stories from the Showcase Batman volume. The problem is that the Showcase Batman volumes start in 1964 when the "New Look" Batman came about. That was when Julius Schwartz took over the titles and got rid of all (ok, most of) the typical Silver Age goofiness. There's some good stories in the Showcase Batman book (Jim might even like some of them), but if you want to get a real feel for the Silver Age Batman, Batman in the Sixties (or Fifties) might be a better choice. An even better choice would be to hunt down some of the more bizarre individual issues such as.....

I've actually read that last one. If you can get a hold of it, I'd recommend it but I don't want to say why.

I've read the Rainbow Batman and the Merman Batman and they are worth taking some time with. Love to see more.

What’s “The Rainbow Batman” about? Every time I see that cover I really want to know why he has to wear the different colour costumers. It's funny, even today the cover really works in making you want to get the issue.

Ooooo...this gives me all sorts of ideas. Of course, at this point I suspect only Sean knows what for.

Save, save, save...got em. Thanks!

They're a ton of fun and I wish more of them were reprinted. I suppose eventually the Archives/Chronicles will reach them. For now, the only place I know of to get reprints of some of these in print is Batman in the Fifties and Batman in the Sixties.

(and of course online downloads, but I wouldn't want to encourage anything illegal [-X

If you guys are enjoying the goofiness of the Batman stories from the covers above... I certainly hope you're reading the Superman Showcase volumes then... that stuff is fun as hell...

Spoiler Warning

The rainbow Batman story has Batman and Robin trying to foil a group of thieves who pose as cameramen. Robin gets a look at the thieves faces in the begining of the story and can identify them. Batman continues to wear differently colored costumes throughout the story to act as a distraction and garner all the intention because Robin had been hurt as Dick Grayson and if anyone had noticed may have put the mystery of their secret identities together.

Thanks, I’ll have to pick up the “Batman in the fifties” trade.

There’s also some cool fifties Batman stories in “The Greatest Joker stories ever told”.

I am reading showcase Superman at the moment; its got some really fun stuff in it. The other day I read that one were Superman wears the mask to teach Lois a lesson. It’s crazy what they come up with.
